How can you use problem solving scenarios to train staff at different organizational levels?

Size and scope of decision making takes place across the entire organization. I often use active role modeling to introduce as much real life into the scenarios as possible!

Problem solving tasks in staff development is an essential teaching tool at all levels. It enables critical thinking, imagination and using own experience to solve tasks. It also develops their analytical skills and decision making abilities that leads to efficient and effective problem solving techniques and methods to be used in the organisation.

Define the end results and build a scenario to help achieve the goals. What is the issue, and what do you wish to achieve? Those will help shape needed training.

Best is to try and use real life examples that may have occurred according to the needs of the staff and the organisation. Always essential to have end targets and goals

During implementation it is vital to build in room for failure. Like Dr.John C. Maxwell says: "When you fail, fail forward so that you at least take some ground" In embracing that learning, the Moderator should be prepared to let genuine life play a role as when exercises are set up in such a way that students never fail, that will become the Achilles heel as to why people cannot cope with real problem solving in life.

Evaluation is critical for any staff development programmes. One of the ways is to gather and offer feedback. highlight strengths and areas for improvement focussing on specific aspects of the task.

I agree but , when it comes to problem solving authority and responsibility plays an important role, if we assign an employee to solve a problem and they doesnt have authority then it is a real barrier for that individual to solve pertinent problems, but when you give authority instead of responsibility then we are talking about real problem solving based on the individual perspective.

Make scenarios as real life as possible. Relate them to the problem at hand! We can use past experiences to guide our work, and it is always important to reaching a successful conclusion.

In the design, development and implementation of a new EHR system, our health system had to go through a great deal off changes, and every step had to be carefully planned. Because of the planning we were successful in reaching a successful point. Not painless, but positive changes that helped the organization improve!
