Running small organizing groups, the use of phone trees are invaluable. Many neighborhood organizations or block watches have phone trees in place. Typically, we use seniors and those who handicapped to work the phones. We provide a short script for them to use and a list of names. Some like to use automatic phone banks, but nothing beats the personal touch of a live human voice. The calls can be made from home or wherever. Lastly, at our event, we make sure to publicly thank our volunteer callers. We try to get one of the local businesses to donate a free coffee or something as a "thank you" to show our appreciation. It also helps to get volunteers for next time.
