How can you use networks and communities to grow your career?

Some must do's for good networking: Focus on giving : Networking is more successful when you approach it with the intention and openness of contributing and being fully present to participate. Good networkers know that the relationship could end up benefiting them in ways that aren’t obvious right now. Make genuine connections: Networking shouldn’t be about being pushy or calculating how they could help you in the future. It should be about broadening the circle of people who you’re genuinely interested in knowing. Curiosity & Active Listening : curiosity jumpstarts meaningful connections & professional relationships. When we see others in our network as people, listen to what they are saying, it increases the quality of interactions.

Every connection that you make, every network that you build is an opportunity for you to reach out more. I see it as a pure opportunity. It's a small world and you never know who will cross your path in your career. Think of it as an opportunity, then you will always look for ways to connect. The more you look for ways to enhance your network, more chance you get to reach out to your ultimate objective. For example, if you are an athlete you would want to reach out to the people in that domain and you would not necessarily reach out to a chess player. So, when you try to build your network you will always have that end goal. Not to forget, the chess player could be the best mate of your athletic ideal. Some food for thought.

In my opinion, building a strong professional network and engaging with communities can significantly boost your career. Here are some ways that helped me to build a strong network: 1. Connect with colleagues, mentors, and peers to discuss ideas, gain insights, and discover opportunities. 2. Engaging in online forums, social media, and attending events can broaden your knowledge and visibility. 3. Share your expertise to establish credibility and show your value. 4. Help others, offer assistance, and foster genuine connections.

Networking becomes more valuable when you visualize the end goal, focusing on mutual benefits. Vital questions like "What can I offer this person, and how can they assist me too?" give you clarity on the right connections to nurture. To build genuine relationships, avoid selfish motives as industry professionals can detect insincerity. Being authentic and selfless paves the way for fruitful collaborations. Furthermore, having a unique and valuable offering sets you apart from others seeking attention. Embrace this friendly approach, be open to giving and receiving, and watch your professional network flourish with incredible opportunities and meaningful connections.

Like in my chess player example, you tend to get connected with the people who shares a common vision. It is completely psychological, your brain tell you which one to reach out to, simply because your mind knows where you want to be. What is your goal, you will try to make connections that would take you to that goal easily. Looking for shortcuts is in human nature - we sometimes call it 'being smart' - however, if you really look at it the connections that you make could give a clear indication of what your interests are.

Natural connections can be made in person and online. Show up to events, contrbute to the discussion and offer testimonials when you've gained valuable insights.

I agree completely as even if you have talent until and unless you get a correct mentor or guide along with a fruitful platform it seems difficult to achieve any goal.Some people have fixed mindset that if changed into growth mindset you would love working with different kind of people irrespective of their caste religion or economic conditions.

Volunteer for events and get involved. Successful events don't just happen. They require planning, collaboration, content creation, proof reading and promotion all before the event itself. Advocate for causes you care about.

Being genuine helpful and by following up regularly definitely takes you to heights.You being a community member share your ideas with others and also gain something from them. it is entirely a give and take process.
