Some misconceptions about an MVP is that it should be a proof of concept and does not need to be earning revenue or be used for monetizing. Others try to make a front end user interface with no backend infrastructure or codebase. These are not 'viable' in an MVP. A viable product is one that can actually provide value to the stakeholder in some business function and is a complete vertical from the front end to the back end.

The first single sprint does not have to yield a shippable product. A single sprint may not be enough to yield an MVP due to various kinds of external reasons from an illness to an external hosting server not being available. However a sprint should build an increment of the the final product that shows progress towards the end goal.
