(Have you looked at an artist’s sketchbook?) If you allow your experiences to guide you when considering a problem rather than focusing on how someone else has done it in the past, you may arrive at a solution, or a beginning to a solution. Conway’s law has been expanded from its original premise to encompass development in general- if the only people at the table think the same way you do, then you are limited in the solutions that present themselves.

Think of it as mental play—it's like exploring ideas in your mind. Imagination involves creative thinking, envisioning possibilities, and generating novel concepts beyond what's immediately evident.

It’s what play does for kids. To get started, I recommend setting a timer for 1 minute, grab a piece of paper, stare off into space and let your hand wander the page until the timer goes off . (Or watch your hand if you can’t bear the thought of not staring at what you are doing.) When the time is up, throw it in the garbage - or date it and put it in a drawer. What is on the page is unimportant. Notice how you feel as you resume your normal routine.
