How can you use design software to improve the user experience?

Not sure what is meant by "UX of your design projects". Not all projects require user experience design. I agree with the general sentiment, but some of the mentioned applications are not suitable for UX Design. e.g. Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and Inkscape. Sketch, Adobe XD and Figma are widely known applications within UX Design space.

The absolute best tool is your mind. Software is a means to an end, and will not make you a great designer. There are some that say that design ends and production begins the minute your pencil hits paper (or mouse clicks stuff in software). To me, design is thinking and problem-solving, and those skills must be tantamount in your pursuit for great design. However, you need to have production skills in software these days to execute your design. I happen to use Figma most at the moment for UX design, but have used dozens of apps to execute. Photoshop and Illustrator are go to apps for visual design projects for me. But avoid the trap of starting with software, because it's too easy to slip into production mode too early.

Maybe Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and Inkscape may not be suitable for UX design at first glance. But in other hand in some case of projects that not only have "UX design" and they need visual design, that softwares will be usable and helpfull.

However, in some instances it may be necessary to import assets created in other programs, such as the ones originally mentioned like Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator. Creating such assets is an example of graphic design, not UX design.

One thing to remember is that at the end of the day, we are designing an experience—a journey with a purpose and a possible goal for the audience. The software is there to optimize certain visions we have in our mind to assist the journey of the users. That being said, there are tools strongly suited for particular design needs but I wouldn't say choosing software is the first step, but seeking potential problems users may run into may be.

Essential elements of UX design are not: "typography, color, contrast, alignment, hierarchy, balance, white space, and consistency". These are essential elements of Visual Design.

Visual design is a craft and has to be studied. Not picked up from a quick online tutorial. It is equal and adjacent to UX design not bundled into it.

You cannot improve the UX of your design projects through mastering tools. Mastering tools only saves you the time to bring ideas to life for testing and conversing about. Conversing, testing, understanding problems, and ideating is where UX happens. I always try to keep this as value: before building your own boat help others with their own. I try not to even open Figma during my discovery phase. This is where I spend my time in Miro, running workshops, interviews and collecting my data, user flows and journeys all in one place. Only when I feel ready, do I start on designs. I enjoy co-designing with my development team, other designers and my users to ensure I knowledge transfer as early as possible. Once I have a prototype ready to go, I validate with my users and iterate as necessary and off it goes into development. I think its so important that the design process does not end there. Setting up tracking of data and success metrics before you release is a must and doing manual testing of all features before the feature is released, ensure design quality in the product.

Keep the end user in mind at every stage! It's easy to get caught up in the details of wireframes, prototypes, etc., but remembering who the product is actually for helps guide decision making. I try to constantly ask myself "How will this impact the user experience?" as I work through research, ideation, prototyping and testing. I think having a plan that is appropriate for the assignment is more important than sticking to a rigid process. Also, these four stages need to happen fractally, or in smaller loops. You don't just want to test at the end. Talk to your users often and show them your work. That way, you won't be in for big surprises. And skip steps when you don't need them. Use the lowest fidelity you can get away with to test when you're inventing a new user experience.

Ok so this article seems wrong but hey it's important to consider your specific role: are you a User Interface Designer, a Product Designer, or a UX Designer? Each of these roles requires distinct skill sets, and it is uncommon for one individual to excel in all areas simultaneously. While it might be feasible for small-scale projects, for larger initiatives, it is more effective to specialize and concentrate on the areas where you are most proficient.
