How can you use Design Patterns in your Programming Language?

Although design patterns such as GoF are rooted in OOP principles, some can be effectively implemented in functional programming, including the Strategy pattern. Adopting this approach streamlines the design and implementation process, significantly reducing boilerplate code. For functional programmers, implementing the Strategy pattern is second nature. It’s also important to recognize that a design pattern isn’t always the optimal solution for every problem. With the continuous evolution of programming languages and their features, there may be more succinct and efficient ways to address some challenges. Therefore, learn Design Patterns, but keep up with your language evolution and master its features.

One common misconception is that OOP can only be achieved with programming languages such as C++, C#, Java, etc. In fact, the basics of OOP can be implemented in practically any language. In C, for instance, OOP can be implemented using structs and function pointers. This provides most of the abstraction benefits of OOP but in a lightweight fashion.

Java, C#, and Python are not Object Oriented languages at all. This is simply a marketing strategy. The other thing is, having OOP language under your hand, doesn't mean that you will write OOP code. "I may have a hammer, but I'm not a craftsman"

Design patterns are independent of any programming language. Design patterns has several advantages design patterns can also help you to: Improve the readability and maintainability of your code Make your code more flexible and adaptable Avoid common design pitfalls Improve the performance of your code Simplify code reuse Facilitate communication between developers Design patterns help to achieve better coding standards.

In functional programming, adopting design patterns like Functional Core, Imperative Shell, and Monoid has significantly streamlined my coding process. These patterns allow for separating pure logic from side effects and combining values efficiently, which aligns with FP’s emphasis on immutability and higher-order functions. Applying these patterns in languages like Haskell and Clojure, I’ve found code becomes not only more maintainable but also elegant. It’s a mindset shift—viewing code through the lens of FP principles and community conventions transforms complex coding challenges into elegant, concise solutions. This approach not only simplifies development but also enhances code quality and readability.

One can also implement FP design pattern in any programming language that allows passing functions as arguments and has the provision for closures for eg Python and Javascript. Python has a built in module named functools offering FP abstractions.

Deciding on FP depends on weighing its benefits against practicality and adapting it to real-world scenarios, hence someone shall weight pros and cons as they have to implement the best behavior for their particular project or case. Modern society tend not to use FP that much and keen towards exploring different options

Despite all languages rely on the same functional programming foundations, their performance can vary significantly. Procedural Programming (PP) optimizes memory via approach and object reuse. Yet, side effects pose challenges. PP integrates seamlessly with Object-Oriented Programming (OOP), leveraging its full potential. This adaptability allows procedures to become objects, improving code organization. Surprisingly, PP maintains relevance in modern tech. Its straightforwardness suits certain tasks and aids new developer onboarding. In summary, PP's memory efficiency and OOP integration highlight its importance. However, caution is needed due to side effects. Choose the paradigm that aligns with project demands, considering both advantages and downsides.

Can we represent Aspect oriented programming possibly, uses the aspects in programming by ensuring the modularity of the code. It is another programming paradigm.

Proposing to include a concise introduction to anti patterns which can occur in certain instances. The inclusion with be helpful in avoiding anti patterns like patternitis.

I think Design Patterns are based on SOLID principles. In any programming language you should consider SOLID principles to have a code that serve more values like extendibility, readability and testability, more than a code that work! In each programming language some of those principles were considered. But not all. So you may say "OOP and those design patterns don't belong to my programming language", but you can't ignore the SOLID.
