How can you train facility occupants for fire prevention and response?

The most devastating fires I have dealt with in commercial premises involved hot work and intentionally set fires (arson). Fire prevention policies and practices that focus only on the activities normally associated with the premises overlook other real dangers to people, property, and operational performance. Contractors performing demolition, construction, and renovation work must be held to the same or higher standards as those applicable to other occupants. And security programs must consider not only who is allowed on the property and where, but also have a deep understanding of how people interact with the premises. Opportunistic fire hazards, such as outdoor storage and waste disposal, present a major risk of intentional fires.

Training for the occupants with respect to ?? fire prevention is an important aspect in facilities management It's always preferable to have trained fire monitors on each floor area ,based on the occupants we can increase or decrease the numbers on the floor, only concern is least one must be available during the office running hours This fire monitor must be provided with specific training from facilities HSE personal ,he / she once trained must be well aware of the usage of building escape plan , also the assembly point . We can also introduce First Aid certificate programmes among the occupants , the aim should be have least 50 % of the occupants trained into this .

My understanding for this case : In terms of dealing with FIRE occurrences, whether in natural forest situations - or barren areas where the temperature is very high, all of this can be handled with a more responsive and caring government. In terms of dealing with FIRE, Office Buildings in each Company must activate how to deal with FIRE, by making sure everyone "NOT PANIC" evacuation is still carried out while extinguishing the FIRE. (And in each building AVAR has been prepared as the following first countermeasure call the FIRE Department.

For fire hazards, first is to identify the level of risk. In this manner we can plan preventive measures to control the level of risk. Proper knowledge, tools/equipment and policy. Audit the compliance of policy and standard operating procedure to ensure that fire safety is working.

Prevent fire most important thing is trained to all employees with "Mock Drills" test it's simple and best learning methods. Thank you

After two devastating fires in readymade garment factories in Bangladesh in 2013 (Tazreen Fashions and Hameem Group), international attention focused on improving fire safety across the industry, which represented the countries' largest source of export income. Much of the effort focused identifying hazards and implementing specific physical safeguards. However, a separate strand focused on worker education and training. This initiative empowered workers to identify and report hazards in their workplaces. In less than two years, these efforts demonstrated incredible results. Prior to training, serious fires occurred every few days, resulted in dozens of injuries, and a few deaths. Afterwards, serious fires, injuries, and deaths became rare.

A key aspect of fire safety training for workers in the Bangladesh garment industry included fire evacuation. Previous fires had killed dozens at a time, often due to inadequate exit design but also due to delays evacuating, uncertainty regarding evacuation procedures, and efforts by security guards and supervisors to prevent workers from leaving. The training and drills implemented from 2015 onwards made a dramatic difference. Workers felt safer and were more engaged in identifying and remedying other workplace hazards. Absenteeism decline and worker retention increased. All of which stimulated greater interests among factory owners and managers in safety improvements because they could see positive effects on their bottom-line.

Reporting should not be limited to actual fire incidents. Engaging employees in reporting hazards of all kinds has an empowering effect and encourages positive feedback loops that lead to increased productivity, quality, and employee job satisfaction. The Bangladesh garment industry safety workplace initiatives used safety committees and anonymous reporting hotlines to good effect. The more engaged a workplace was in the formation and utilization of safety committees, the stronger the positive effects on business performance were.

Adequate training and education of all my personal is the only way to keep them combat ready .This was to be done continuously. Avery personal must know what can possibly lead to fire ?? outbreaks and report any unsafe acts and conditions to the appropriate authority within the organisation.

Sometimes, the feeling of safety is its own reward. After one of the first garment factories to complete its remediation program finished, I interviewed the general manager and asked him what changes he had observed as a result of the remediation work. He was unequivocal in his response: "Absenteeism dropped from more than 5% per day to less than 2%. Worker retention at the Eid holiday increased by a factor of three. Production interruptions due to electrical problems went from an almost daily occurrence to less than weekly and from several hours each to less than one hour each." The combined effect he said was a 10-15% increase in monthly operating margin. Why? All the remediation work made workers feel safer and more valued.

A strong safety culture tells workers their lives and health are valuable. Not just as a matter of corporate productivity and profitability, but as a matter of empathy and humility. When workers know their employer puts their welfare ahead of other considerations, they invest in their jobs in ways that inevitably increase productivity, quality, and profitability. Creating this culture requires much more than safety posters, a daily safety message, incentive schemes, and consistent reporting on hazards and workplace safety metrics. These things can contribute, but they are not a replacement for making people feel seen, heard, and valued because their concerns influenced changes in the way the company operates.

It is good to give employees a chance to use a fire extinguisher. They don’t last as long as you think and if you don’t get right up on the fire and hit the base, it won’t be effective. Furthermore, discouraging employees from trying to fight a fire, particularly in a sprinkled building is a good thing. The priority is life and health, not property. Inhalation of smoke from burning building materials can wreak havoc on lungs. Best policy is to get out of the building and avoid smoke as best as you can. Usually that means foregoing use of any extinguisher.

Do these on quarterly basis 1 Conduct Fire and Safety Audit 2 Carry out Mock drills for Operations Team using the Fire Infra 3 Review AMC contracts and do the needful renewal 4 Send out information about Fire and Safety Hazards and Mitigation practices to occupants. Do these Half Yearly 1 Conduct Mock Emergency drills for Occupants 2 Submit Complaince report to Local Authorities for Fire and Safety. Do these Yearly 1 Review Fire Infra and Operational Practices for betterment

Arm facility leaders, those with the purse strings with the information they need to make sound decisions on investment of fire safety systems and programs. Real world examples of fire/financial losses in similar industries, the current risks to their facilities and cost effective management of fire system, process . Be an advocate and ally.
