Online ERP training is very useful, many people learn at different paces, have different availability, are regionally dispersed, or have limited onsite support. Online ERP training, delivered well, can help organisations achieve a level of consistency across standard core business processes within their ERP. This may allow workers from one regional office for instance, support another office during periods of leave, or even if they move domestically for other reasons. Online training can help make ERP information 'Domain-Specific' i.e. how the ERP works within that current business. More general public information available externally doesn't always have this benefit, as ERPs can be tailored and customised.

Online training can be overused in some instances, it is important for people who may be new to the business or function, have the support of both developed training materials, or an informal support system. Many staff can follow online materials such as click learn - which are interactive and well documented. The support of an experienced staff member helps to further contextualise it in the current operational environment for the business. Materials require periodic review at certain points. As code is changed and developed, there may be a need to revisit the business process, or online training material by the stakeholder of that function.

Written with an internal functional lens - I have found that great online training has been mapped to 'User stories' User stories typically describe a task or function that a specific function performs within the business, and details the outcome - and can be then mapped to individual processes and process steps which are required to complete the task. This make it easier for the function, the developer, and the resource developing training materials to be connected, as there is a relationship. User stories (needs) may change, and this can change requirements. It is important that the stories are developed with a level of domain specifics - i.e. the business context. This helps make the material deployable in the organisation.
