One which many of us choose even before even setting course. Therefore it is always best practice for all businesses to collect data. This helps you whether in retrospect to analyze the way forward or while monitoring various performances to tweak and shift with the ever changing climate. Whether you rely on external council or depend on the analysis yourself, accurate data driven decision will always be the most helpful. Remember you and your analysis are only as good as your data. Let the numbers do the talking and you do the analysis led them them.

It's tempting to read metrics in a binary fashion (a metric correlates with a "yes" or "no" from a prospective client) -- but it is also important to consider the variable of time. A deal may close, it may not close, or it may simply linger. Presumably, in these scenarios, the client is saying "maybe" and granting the seller more time to make their case. For this reason, metrics related to time elapsed are an important ingredient: * With more client interactions, will a deal close quicker? * Will promotions or added value close a deal quicker? * Are there externalities (budget cycles, consumer patterns) which affect the sales cycle? From there, it becomes easier to take action on these insights.

5 Report your findings

The fifth step is to report your findings to clients and stakeholders, which involves conveying, explaining, and persuading them about your data, metrics, and analysis in a clear, concise, and compelling way. Your reports should be relevant, reliable, and realistic for your consulting business. In my experience, no matter what metrics are tracked, it's best to track the output to get the best results. Of course, for this to be fair, all internal processes must be functioning properly.
