One trick I've used in the past is also understanding where the interview will be taking place and getting an idea of timing to get there and if there are any pictures of the interior of the building just so I can be a little more familiar with it. I want to be able to get there early and make myself at ease before I go in. If the interview is virtual, I like to know what time zone my interviewer will be in so I can gauge if it's earlier or later for them compared to me.

I find that acknowledging any awkwardness or nervousness out of the gate helps get that out of the way and shows a bit of authenticity. Keeping things light and bright also really help build rapid rapport quickly - making a joke can help accomplish this pretty quickly. One thing that I try to tell myself before I interview is that I'm going in there to 'have a conversation with a friend' vs. 'going for an interview'. That way it feels like a lower-stakes setting and I find I'm more fluid and conversational.

'Plusing' the ideas of others is a great way to acknowledge their validity, and add some thoughts of your own. I also think it's perfectly fine to offer a differing opinion as well as the justification for that opinion.

I find the best interview questions I can ask are the ones that aren't easily searchable online. I tend to ask open-ended questions like "what surprised you when you came to work here?" and "what are some things you've learned in your role that you think might be helpful for others to know?". These are broad questions that allow others to share more about themselves.

I often write my thank-you notes in advance, saying that I really enjoyed our conversation and that I appreciated getting to share time with them. If I'm interviewing in person, I'll ask the front desk or admin to drop off the cards later that day. If it's virtual, I'll have the email drafted and edit slightly so that I can include something relevant. Then I just hit send!
