I’ve also found it be beneficial to break up the topic of solar photovoltaic (PV) energy into 3 courses. 1) Intro to PV: History of PV, basic definitions, concepts, equipment and arrangements. 2) PV system sizing, calculations, layouts, and software. 3) Advanced PV design: Effects of hot and cold temperatures, off-grid use, code analysis, and big picture grid integration.

Conduct hands-on experiments or projects that allow students to directly interact with solar energy. This could include building simple solar models, measuring solar radiation, or designing a solar-powered device. Practical experience can deepen understanding; because in the world of learning, theory may be the script, but practical experience is the blockbuster – nothing else compares to the thrilling, hands-on adventure of turning knowledge into action!

Be articulate, good communication with enthusiasm and know your subject. Listen, and don't talk at your students, talk to them.

In my perspective, we should enable students to comprehend what energy is, its significance for our survival, and how the extensively used existing energy sources create problems for our ecosystem, ultimately affecting our daily lives. Then, we can begin by exploring the sun as a power source, understanding how it generates power and how we can harness sunlight as energy. However, we have yet to fully optimize our technology in energy storage to store solar energy, which has the potential to power the entire world. Sustainable energy storage stands as the solution to the world's energy crisis. Solar energy emerges as the best possible and available choice for achieving this. Lesser Pollution! Better ecosystem! Healthy Living Beings!

Site visits, with simple explanation of how panels work. Revert to basics: historically, we made electricity with steam. Nuclear energy is the most expensive way to boil water. Coal used to be the cheapest way to boil water. Today, water is becoming more scarce. We want to get it out of the electricity business. Wind and solar energy do not trigger a “fuel cost adder” under the traditional definition of the term. The energy itself is free. Both wind and solar energy make electricity without using water, which is a breakthrough we need. Utilities may start converting to “Performance Based Rates”, which would change utilities to earning their returns by how well they serve their customers, instead of by how much they spend on fuels.

One thing I have always found helpful when teaching students from different backgrounds about Solar PV systems is to teach from a place of understanding and simplicity.Consistently use real life practical and relatable examples to make your point understood by them.

This is a big one for me. Many instructors GoTo is PowerPoint(R), but it tends to be too structured and dry if the presenter is not careful. Keep it simple and it’s a great tool when you present from your knowledge and not use PP as a crutch to regurgitate info. Slide decks with pictures, graphs, and animation (even short videos) tend to work well when you present the info in the front of the room (assumes in person learning). TALK TO YOUR STUDENTS! Connect with them, and teach them.

Put them in the field for a year working from the ground up. Best class they will ever receive is practial experience. There is no substitute.

OJT as an apprentice with guided book learning is best. Motivation is key. The instructor is merely a guide. Student heart determines success. Early instructor success builds instructor confidence not student motivation. Of course, personal connection one to one builds classroom interaction.

This can be tricky. Collaboration often yields division of work which tends to yield isolated learning in smaller areas. It’s important to have deep involvement by each team member for full immersive learning. Hands on building of even a small system can supplement the academic aspect and yield much better results.
