First determine the priorities that the testing need to address. This includes key business functionality and systems that impact business continuity, and business risks (tax, audit purposes). Once the priorities have been assessed based on criticality and magnitude; start to determine who will be involved and the timeline needed to complete the testing. All testing should be focused on value not exhaustive. Finally, determine the audience. For higher level executives system testing reports should be layered in business readiness. This means it should be focused on functionality. While more technical audiences will be looking for ways to address gaps.

The second step to streamline your system testing report is to use a consistent and clear format for presenting the information. You can use a standard template or create your own, but make sure that it follows a logical structure and includes the following sections: introduction, summary, test plan, test execution, test results, defects, metrics, feedback, and conclusion.
