I use quarterly goal-setting to set my SMART goals. I set my goals at the beginning of the quarter. This gives me a specific time frame of three months (12 weeks). Then I make my goals very specific - for example, instead of saying learn C#, I would list the exact course to take, a project to make, a group to connect, etc. I also add what is the outcome I am expecting by learning C#.

I've found that setting SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) goals is my secret to staying motivated. For instance, instead of vaguely aiming to "build a rental web app," I'll set a goal like "build feature x by date y." This not only clarifies my task but also makes it manageable. Breaking down my projects into smaller, SMART objectives keeps me on track and wards off procrastination. It's a simple shift in planning but makes all the difference in my productivity.

Once you set your goals (in my case, I set quarterly goals), break them into weekly goals. This way, you will have smaller goals to accomplish and track. After that, set your weekly plan and schedule at the beginning of each week. You will have an opportunity to specify the exact activities to do and accomplish. At the end of each week, do a weekly review and track your progress for each smaller goal and quarterly goals. A weekly review will refuel your energy week after week. Celebrating your wins and hard work is one of the best ways to become consistent with your excellent work. One way to do that is to post your wins on the internet and celebrate with others. Also, refueling every few hours is very helpful. It could be a small treat such as candy or a favorite snack. For me, going to my backyard and watering my plants is most relaxing activity.

I've found that rewarding myself is key to maintaining momentum. Whether it's a small task like completing a feature or a major milestone like launching an app, I give myself a little treat. A coffee break or a sports day acts as both an incentive and a well-deserved break, rejuvenating my energy and keeping me excited about my work. I use Pomodoro techniques to overcome distraction, in which I hyperfocus for 25 to 50 min and then take small breaks.
