How can you stay current on experimental research?

One effective strategy for accomplishing this is by subscribing to relevant journals and newsletters. Whether your interest lies in psychology, education, economics, or medicine, there are numerous specialized journals that publish groundbreaking studies. For example, publications like Experimental Psychology, Journal of Experimental Education, Experimental Economics, and Journal of Experimental Medicine are key resources for their respective domains. In addition to academic journals, newsletters from leading organizations such as the Society for Experimental Social Psychology, the Experimental Biology Society, or the American Economic Association offer curated content that can help you sift through the noise.

Cutting edge research often comes out of top universities and specialist research institutions. Find out which ones relate to your field of interest and seek out the relevant research centre or group. You’ll see what the researchers in that field are working on and the research papers they are writing. Note that much of this research may be published in academic journals which are not often accessible to the wider professional and business world so you have the opportunity to be the bridge between academic experimental research and the work setting.

LinkedIn and X (formally known as Twitter) are fantastic places to stay up to date with what is next. There are a large number of research papers specifically shared on X highlighting various latest and greatest on anything from Generative AI to Super Conductive Materials and lots in between. Following the right people is key, as it takes all the hard work out of gaining access to the newest and most interesting materials (as the researcher and influencer does all the hard work for you) - Your biggest issue then will be what do you spend your time reading, as there is so much content, but it's worth the effort, as i must cite a lot of my research completed this way on a daily basis with clients

Some of the most informative ways I have found to stay current is: - Spend time setting up the right subscriptions - I find Linked In, X, Barron's, WSJ, Network World, Channel Futures, Science Journal and a few others. - You have to dedicate time every day, at least an hour, to read.

TedX, YouTube, Clubhouse are excellent outlets for learning. I read for an hour a day and I spend an hour consuming video content. It's not wasted time, it's a discipline that will build competencies.

There are so many ways to take courses and keep your skillsets fresh and learn new things. Most of them are free! From courses on Linked IN, Microsoft offers all sorts of online training. Youtube is another great place to learn. I'm learning to play guitar. Check out Justin Guitars.

Valid. Important. Useful. Formulate your own hypothesis. Do the heavy lifting. Engage in conversations about your problem statement and have meaningful discussions on the subjects that intrigue you. If feasible, build in public. Engage your target group, create a buzz, and showcase the results. This approach also allows you to use your experimental research as thought leadership content, which can generate significant attention around your project.

Becoming knowledgeable about a particular subject is important, but being the smartest person in the room on a topic if you are unable to either A explain it well to others who aren't as knowledgeable, or B have a good understanding of what this thought leadership can be good for in the situation you are using this knowledge for, will often mean you are struggling to add value into business related discussion. Ensure that if you are keen to become an expert using the methods mentioned above that you also being an expect in applicability of said topic.
