1 Update your resume

Your resume is the first impression that employers will have of your routing skills, so make sure it is clear, concise, and relevant. Routing is meant primarily to deliver network services (internet, underlay reachability, overlay services etc) and business applications that runs on top of network services. Explaining routing's architecture and its value to different level of audience will require broadening your perspective in networking. For network planning and engineering, routing (or routing protocol) is the heart-beat of network and it should conform with best practices and environment-specific requirement where it is deployed (scale, efficient, manageability). for senior management and business users, routing should focus on what matters to business applications like latency, high-resiliency, differentiated services capability, and upper layer network services.

Another thing I recommend is to setup a Cisco sandbox like you would in certification courses or college and setup some routes. Use packet sniffing to demonstrate traffic and ensure you add a bad route or loop and demonstrate how to track it down while explaining why this way the prospective employer or technical interviewer can see that you know the commands and see how you respond. In addition have a clean vanilla environment ready to setup the basics like hostname, wr mem, route print, route add, ping, and tracert so they can see you already know the basics and can learn more but not without out sneaking in a few NAT or STP/ RSTP commands showing you can handle intermediate tasks. This way they are left to wonder what you really know.
