In my experience, understanding the specific strengths and limitations of each AWS service is crucial for avoiding common pitfalls when scaling CI/CD. While CodeCommit offers seamless integration, its feature set might not be exhaustive. Similarly, CodeBuild's build and test capabilities may not encompass every language or framework needed. By carefully evaluating each service's suitability based on project requirements, budget, and desired functionalities, we can select the optimal combination for a scalable and efficient CI/CD pipeline. This approach ensures effective utilization of AWS capabilities while avoiding potential roadblocks associated with service limitations.

Common Pitfalls to avoid - 1. Strategize - Single solution may not be one stop solution for all of your CICD needs. Build enterprise strategy on list of use cases best fit, what all tollgates are essential in CICD like image scanning, whitelisted package download only. 2. Automation - Automate to the right extent. Set threshold on to when to run pipeline. Use Infrastructure as code (IAC) and build rules for optimal test coverage etc. 3. Testing - No amount of testing is enough but dont go insane. Start with functional test case building and leverage over the counter code coverage tool. 4. Continuous improvement - Don't stick with 1 set of CICD pattern and technology stack. Looks for resource and cost optimization and reuse patterns.

Generally I recommend to use fully managed AWS services over self build. Only for specific use cases it makes sense to spend time and build/integrate and maintain yourself

You can use tool like AWS Cloud Formation or AWS CDK to define your IAC .. Apart from this for CI/CD pipeline to run and auto-scaling up or down based on demand also you can plan . As per my understanding Distributed build system like AWS code build or jenkins distributed builds to parallelize and distribute the system

the goal of ci/cd is to build and deploy the app fast, automatic aka continuous. the overhead by the cicd to the developers should be as minimum as possible. i used jenkins, aws codepipeline and github actions. github actions is my favourite
