Compression is super essential for the applications where user save images, photos, videos etc. Especially where there is no need to save the file in the original size. For example in chats. The processing time of compressed data will be twice or even three times faster compared to the original files. However, if you need to show the image in the best resolution, and it's your key feature, compression is absurd for you.

Built-in compression is useful, but it won't help in all cases. Just because sometimes you won't be able compress file to the level acceptable for mailing or messaging. For example, Gmail allows to sent files smaller than 20MB, so the WhatsApp does. Keep in mind, that's impossible to compress the 200 MB file to 20MB. The average coefficient of compression is 1.5 - 2.0. Using the 3-rd party tools pay attention to the limits of file size. However high-quiality services will be able to compress huge files splitting them to the sectors (parts)
