In my Sessions, I start off with music from YouTube to loosen up the students, then I dive into the lessons. My slides are interactive using questions that require the students to answer in the chat or come on the mic. I also include games like Kahoot or quizzes that reflect what what we have covered in class. I try to make it as interactive as possible.

It’s a tricky one - to balance autonomy with guided approach. However, that’s what’s proven to work in pedagogy and andragogy. Self assessments can be great but deluding too. Hence, benchmarking learners’ starting point in knowledge and skills through an objective, rigorous diagnostic/pre-assessment is crucial. That helps them save time by avoiding repetitive/redundant content and helps sustain engagement and momentum.

Ongoing professional learning for our educators is an essential part of online learning. Literature tell us there is still work to be done in this area. I conducted research, in addition to my peers, studying the preparedness of online educators to teach diverse learners, such as students with learning disabilities. Results indicated teachers are in need of additional development to better meet the needs of their online learners.
