Having lost a WordPress site with a work of 6years, I know the pain of losing content. Unfortunately for me, I was not in touch with the PHP providers, and my developer didn't make any plan for a back up. It was a nightmare. I had to start from the beginning but I am yet recover from that lose. I find this topic interesting because I am having the opportunity to tell anyone who cares to hear to never make the same mistake that I made. What I have done is to have the developer back up the site. I am also paying some plugins like Jetpack for backup. For my newest site, I am buying the auto back-up plan from the DNS provider. Check your options and go for the most suitable backup plan for your CMS. But never go without a backup.
