Simply making sure an employee knows they are valued and you have noticed that value as a leader is likely worth far more than that gift card that would be sent would ever make an impact to them. Simple kindness and genuine recognition has value that can't really be measured but at the same time will certainly show up in employee tenure in an organization. Treat people well and they stay, Don't and they will leave. It's really a simple formula.

Jobs in sales are tough! Full of rejection, days with no wins. It is our job as managers to help our team through these difficult periods and one of the best ways it to recognize their wins and even mini wins. One of the most powerful ways to increase performance is through positive recognition. Recognition helps foster a positive culture at your origination and a positive mental attitude across your team which motivates them during the tough times and helps them to celebrate the good times!

While recognizing achievement of goals is important, as a sales leader you should find other ways to "catch" people doing the right things well to recognize. Don't tie all recognition to goals - that will limit your ability to motivate on a daily basis. Find ways to thank and recognize members of your team for their efforts, teamwork, and other contributions.

It is important to not only have recognition based upon quota attainment but also around the core values at your origination. Criteria for quota is fairly straightforward but it can be more difficult to set criteria around core values. We have found at SalesRoads that there is no short cut. It is about continuously communicating what your core values are and then living them as leaders at the origination. For instance, as President, I welcome all new hires and on their first day and talk about our core values, what they mean to me. I then speak to them every quarter in our town hall meetings. It is this continuous communication that allows people to understand what the criteria is for living our core values.

Disagree with this point entirely. Different people need / want recognition for different things. And the type of recognition matters too. Are you working closely with one person to ID & improve a specific skill? Call them out as they are getting better. Mention it publicly to another sr stakeholder. Obviously there are the "big things" like quota attainment, top pipeline growth, etc. But not every attempt at "recognition" should be some formalized town hall thing based on established criteria. Just let people know when they are on the right track. Tell them when you are impressed. Give them credit when you notice improvements.

Also one kind of powerful recognition is to assign to the consistent performers a newly joined team member or the one needing some hand holding , this can highly motivate the individual to perform on a still higher level, learn team handling skills, get the organisation managers in house and can also send them the message that they may be the future managers with their own team.

Keep the goals simple and celebrate like crazy when you crush them. This is easier said than done. In my business, we are consistently measuring year over year sales growth. A simple goal. What we are not as skilled as celebrating and recognizing the wins. Especially if it's two or three years in a row. The first year is great and then the momentum wanes. It is up to the leaders to ensure that recognition and celebration are intentional. Sales goals, quotas, and any other desired team behaviors should be recognized on a regular basis. If a company meeting is part of your culture, my opinion is to always schedule recognition time in the agenda as a priority. Now let's go win.

Feedback and coaching has proven to be the most valuable recognition, as well as, offering training, workshops, and courses to help them improve their skills. This shows that the company and the sales manager value their development and encourage them to carry on in this direction. Sharing every major success with the whole team (we are still a small company) is the recognition they appreciate the most.

Recognition should be personalized. It may take a bit of investigation but find out the way the person would want to be acknowledged. I have a seller who gets very self-conscious in a public setting. They would appreciate a small, quiet, personal token of recognition. I have other more extroverted people that thrive on the social recognition. I have unfortunately made the mistake of recognizing publicly where the person being recognized did not prefer that method. It made that person uncomfortable, and I regret that I did that. Lesson learned. Take more time in learning how each individual prefers recognition.

I personally believe every action and result that we want to reinforce and promote we need to recognise and reward. There can be Star of the Month , Star of Monthly Sales , Star of Sales visits achieved/ leads generated/ orders received, etc Also we can collect customer feedback about the sales team and this can also be applauded in weekly / monthly meetings In half yearly/ yearly sales conferences the major achievements need to be recognised with rewards like monetary rewards, certificates , trophies, vacations , vouchers

This is an accomplishment to feel proud of.” “I knew you'd do a great job on that tough project! You could have delegated it but you maintained a positive attitude & I admire your commitment to see this through to completion.”

For instance, at SalesRoads we have continuous shout outs throughout the day on slack. Our teammates shout one another out when they book an appointment or do something that embodies one of our core values. Recognition is then also delivered in a more personal setting during regular coaching sessions or team meetings. Finally every quarter we have a town hall where we announce our quarterly awards both for quota achievement as well as embodying our core values. We have found that when you recognize people at different cadences across multiple channels you are generating the highest impact.

What you can do is this: - Organize monthly performance review and showcase the wins and give people the stage to explain how the won deals - This way you give them the shine and your team can learn from the winners - As manager give your own take-aways to summarize.

We have a "pulse" survey that we send out on a quarterly basis that helps us to understand if our employees feel they are being recognized. Having a mechanism like this to learn how your team is feeling and where you need to focus in the coming quarter has been invaluable for us to learn where we have shortcomings and where we are doing well. Then with these insights we know where we need to focus our attention to do better for our team.

I would definitely avoid overthinking this one! It's pretty simple and straightforward in my opinion. If people do good and great stuff, are looking for ways to be(come) better, then it's your job (as a team, a collective, a co-worker, a manager,...) to take the time to appreciate this effort. Just sending a quick DM or sharing a message in your Slack channel can already get your crazy far. Just tell people that they're awesome! Cause they are!

I use what I call the 3M strategy - Mentor Monitor And then Measure. Most of our systems first either measure or monitor or vice versa , which i feel is really lopsided. I believe in mentoring team for the expected and then monitor regularly and then measure , so that nothing is a shock for the team and they feel the process is fair

This not only recognizes the employee for their individual success, but it informs your entire team of the success.
