Micro interaction does not necessarily constitute few pretty animations. It gives sense and purpose to the action performed in a way that make user feel satisfied and fulfilled.

Although microinteractions help give life to designs and add a level of delight, they should be purposeful. They should make the user journey through a product smooth and not be disruptive. A good example of a purposeful interaction is a success animation once an action has been completed successfully.

Before prototyping, clarify your goals for microinteractions and animations. Identify the problem you're addressing, the value you're adding, and the emotions you want to evoke. Consider how these elements fit into the user journey. Define the scope and detail level of your prototype, deciding on high or low fidelity, determining the number of screens and states, and specifying the desired level of realism and interactivity.

One of my favorite principle is that the user ALWAYS expect a reaction after an input. Even if our product is loading/elaborating, we need to assure them that their action has been taken into consideration, by showing a little animation or pop up message.

My favorite is the café test: by simply sitting in the coffee corner, I ask fellow colleagues what they think about the prototype. Such an informal situation allows them to be genuine and not feeling pressure to answer.

I enjoy the use of micro interactions in my design cause it in a way makes the design feel more alive.There’s however a way micro interactions can be used that it becomes annoying, distracting and throws the user off. Micro interactions are best used to give a user an immediate feedback when an action has been carried out. There are also different ways to come up with micro interactions, either you create them yourself which gives you complete flexibility to coming up with exactly what you want or you download them as an asset (this option only gives you limited flexibility to manipulating the asset).
