In these cases it can be advantageous to provide additional pockets, 'overflows', to provide a run-off area where gases, and contaminants such as mould lubricants, can accumulate without affecting the integrity of the component. This can then have the benefit of allowing the injection pressure to be reduced and still correctly fill the critical sections of the moulded component, thus reducing the likelihood on pressure induced flashing.
