How can you prepare for the future of CAD?

Earlier at 2000. I had a summer training. I saw 20s years old engineers, using AutoCAD. In a backroom, I saw a man in his late 40s, using the old method, A board and T ruler. He told me this is his last year, they asked him to resign nicely, because he can't keep up with the technology progress. He gave me and advice that I never forget "son, never stop learning, or get too old to keep up with the updates, or you will end up like me". That's something I never forget. We all saw how CAD tools changed from classic AutoCAD to Revit and solid works and so on, and it keep going. I think the future is about two main things, connection between CAD software and programming, and cloud based CAD. That's the future target that we should all grasp

Generative Design usage will going to increase rapidly for all type of Products. Since generative design is based on Artificial intelligence (AI), as AI grows, generative design also. So, designer must update with developments of generative Design.

It's always recommended to have a portfolio showcasing your work handy. It doesn't matter if the individual is a fresher or experienced but most of us have no idea ??on how to create one. Here's what you can use: - Google Sites - Behance - Canva, MS PowerPoint Both google sites and Behance are good for online portfolio, with customizable built-in templates. Make sure the formatting is proper, uniform throughout and professional. List your projects, achievements. If you are a student Or fresher list your academic projects. Remember to only show your best work, add your contact details, LinkedIn profile link etc to the portfolio, so that the person can easily reach out to you.

For me, updating my portfolio and resume is like journaling about what I have created or accomplished in my journey of studying. It would be nice if my personal "journal" could also serve as a medium for knowledge sharing and, hopefully, can also impress potential employers.

A resume is how you get your foot in the door, but a portfolio is how you impress your potential employer. I would recommend collecting as many Unique examples of different work as possible using a free cloud storage solution like google drive. It is very impressive to not only talk about your experience and how you have tackled problems in the past, but then punctuate it with an actual example.

College reference books are designed to provide comprehensive and structured information on a subject. They delve into the fundamentals, theories, and principles in my experience, especially in Finite element analysis simulation, i found that the knowledge provide in my mechanical engineering textbook can always help me to proceed when i encountered a "knowledge wall" in following the CAD latest updates.

sometimes when we want to get feedback and improvement, we should search for it. people not giving comment or feedback to our work doesn't mean that our works is already perfect. maybe it just so so, or even it maybe a bad work. so when you need feedback, sometimes you should ask for it. don't afraid to look stupid, because it holding you back to experience a constructive conversation.

As a teacher of university, one way to prepare for the future of CAD is to introduce and expand of this good software as a tools for different university student snd majors, civil , architecture and technical student at different science branch can use of this software

One way you can do it is by industry attending webinars, networking events, Autodesk University events, LinkedIn live. I would also suggest to work the local architect, consultant or engineers to learn and advance your skills while you are still studying and then offer your service on freelancing sites.

asking question can build network. as in my experience, when i have a question i just found an expert on linkedin and just ask them. most of the time i get a really satisfying answer and also increase my network.

I think one of the most important things to remember is that CAD is simply a tool. Tools evolve and that process allows us to explore opportunities we once didn’t have. CAD may change drastically over the next few years. Stay on top of these updates and openly approach the new opportunities that present itself with these changes.

Thinking from different perspectives from a CAD user the skys the limit as technology ever evolves so expect the unexpected. Look up to space or away from the screen and the way we interact with CAD could differentiate in future governed by the infinite. From a CAD supplier / developer’s perspectives understanding needs and wants will always be key. However offering new innovations / interpretations of Cad could create a new market segment. E.g.user psycho chip lead on the head. Saying that there will always be a place for 2d as per our ancestors drawing on cave walls to share intent.

We'll never be ahead of every CAD software in this ever-evolving world - as in many things in life, this isn't just about chasing the latest software updates or AI-driven features: the real secret is having a solid foundation in the basics. Understanding the 'why' and 'how' behind each tool and function gives you a level of versatility that's priceless. Point is, if we grasp the underlying principles of any CAD, learning a new software becomes an easier transition rather than a steep learning curve. So, as tempting as it is to dive into the newest features, never underestimate the power of mastering the basics.

With engineering use of parametric CAD software, often your positions lead you to either generative shape CAD design or a somewhat specialised CAD modules, such as sheet metal or surfacing. The key here is to consistently improve and expand your CAD skills and learn to use different modules. Surfacing is a very usefull skill, especially when the model is done in the right way and with the best modelling practices. Add to it Class A surfacing and you are well ahead of your peers! Different CAD software employ slightly different structure and feature options. In the end, every software is just a tool and similar to others. It is best not to limit yourself with one particular software, but to be proficient with at least 3-4 different ones!

I have two overarching thoughts for consideration... 1.) What requirements are your clients expecting? For example DOTs, they are making the shift and leading the way for Digital Project Delivery. In some cases they even provide a roadmap, so you can use these are guides in formulating your future plans. 2.) The people - getting into new technology is going to take leveling up your teams. If you do this strategically and thoughtfully, you can minimize the disruption that it will cause to make such a shift. If you don't plan ahead to train your teams and invest in the appropriate software, when the times comes and it will come... you may be left behind.
