1 Network strategically

One of the most effective ways to get noticed by consulting firms is to network with people who work there or have connections to them. You can start by reaching out to your professors, classmates, mentors, or anyone who can refer you or introduce you to consultants. You can also use platforms like LinkedIn, alumni directories, or events to find and contact consultants who share your background, interests, or goals. When you network, be respectful, professional, and genuine. Explain why you are interested in consulting and ask for advice, feedback, or referrals. Don't be pushy or spammy, and follow up with gratitude and updates.

2 Craft a stellar resume

Your resume is your first impression to the consulting firms, so you need to make it stand out. Highlight your achievements, skills, and experiences that are relevant to consulting, such as problem-solving, analytical thinking, leadership, teamwork, communication, and impact. 4 Prepare for fit interviews

Fit interviews are the ones where the consulting firms assess your personality, motivation, and fit with their culture and values. To prepare for them, you need to research the firm's history, mission, vision, values, and projects. You also need to reflect on your own strengths, weaknesses, interests, and goals. Prepare stories that showcase your skills and achievements using the STAR method. I would say to network with the colleagues cum friends who are already into management consulting. Though you haven’t attended any target schools, still you would get some of the interview questions asked by companies by research, which would help you in cracking it.

5 Leverage your unique background

One of the advantages of coming from a non-target school is that you can differentiate yourself from other candidates who have similar profiles. You can leverage your unique background, such as your academic major, work experience, extracurricular activities, hobbies, or passions, to show your diversity, creativity, and value. You can also highlight how your background has helped you develop skills and perspectives that are relevant to consulting, such as critical thinking, adaptability, innovation, or empathy. Don't be afraid to show your personality and passion, and connect with the interviewer on a human level.

It’s all about your pitch! Your P.I.T.C.H at the boardroom. Firstly your personality: who are you basically because all I see first is YOU. How you come across to the potential client or audience. You engaging you are able to hold my attention for the first 5 mins. Next Industrial insights, what are the current and emerging impact to business and implications. Do you have any research or data findings to present ? T for talent and skills that of your capabilities ,strategy, expertise to bring about transformation as required. C for communication. You were engaging and have fugue in your conversation and lastly H your hunger and passion which must come out strong in your delivery and leaving your client thinking and wanting more

6 Seek feedback and improve

After each consulting interview, you should seek feedback from the interviewer, your network, or your peers. Feedback can help you identify your strengths and weaknesses, and improve your performance for the next interview. You should also reflect on your own experience, and note down what went well and what didn't. Be open-minded and humble, and learn from your mistakes.
