There is really no 'one size fits all' approach to managing a project. You cannot just follow rules, procedures, and methodologies without analysing the characteristics of your project - environment, people, technology, etc. And when you see something is not working in the way you manage your project, you should be humble enough to admit it and change your strategy to something that will work, which can be a collaborative discovery between you and your team.

To overcome risks and challenges in complex project environments, establish a comprehensive risk management plan, identify potential issues early, and implement proactive solutions. Foster clear communication among team members, set realistic expectations, and regularly reassess and adapt the project plan as needed. Additionally, leverage the expertise of a diverse and skilled team, prioritize resource allocation, and maintain flexibility to navigate unexpected obstacles. Regularly review and learn from past projects to refine strategies and improve resilience in handling complexities.

In a complex project, which is comprehensive or multi-functional and has stakeholders, it is necessary to welcome the changes that may occur rather than a rigid project plan. -Of course, it is important to use change management effectively. -However, in order to create an environment where new ideas can be easily shared at the same time, the organizational structure and culture must be designed to support this. -At this point, there should be communication, senior management support, and the use of the right techniques.

For complex project, - Need to adopt flexible approach that allows you to adjust your plan and process. -Communication is an important part for any project. Have clear and transparent communication about the expectations. -React to the situation promptly. -Have good collaboration with all stakeholders and engage with them regularly. -Most important is having your risk register prepared prior, updated regularly and reviewed by senior leadership at certain intervals.

You need to appreciate that not all of your stakeholders have been through the project management training that you may have received, haven't learned the terminology - and certain words have different meanings for them. Risk is an example of this. For many people, hearing something has risk is code for "don't do that thing", which is the last thing we want to communicate in projects as you may be judged - unfairly - as negative and attacking the project. So when you communicate with stakeholders that are unfamiliar with project management terminology, adapt your language to describe "threats", "uncertain outcomes", etc - and pair that information with openness about the need to mitigate those risks in a simple and transparent manner.

I really believe that communication is a very important key to a successful project. We should not try to hide information to stakeholders that we think they would not be happy to hear. Who knows, they might be able to help us with it? It should be based on facts and not on gut feelings.

Because some confuse risk with problem, which prevents the risk from being prevented by escalating earlier. The most successful management or prevention of risk should be analyzed and handled at the planning stage of risk responses, even at the beginning of the project, while the risk has not yet occurred. The most effective management of risk can be carried out during the project execution phase with the actions determined in risk planning.

I have found the ROAM (Resolve, Own, Accept and Mitigate) approach most suitable for managing risks. We also need to focus more on the risks where their probability and impact is high. The other key thing is continuous monitoring and reporting of risks. We also need to learn from our previous experiences to tell the probability of uncertain events i.e. risks. Once risks are identified, we can use the ROAM approach.

Risk management process is essential for any project. We need to address the risks associated with project phases, inline components like timeline, budget, scope , etc 1.Risks repository or risk register will help to track/ maintain all the risks associated with any project 2.Documenting the potential risks and coming with an action plan before these turns into issues. 3.Capture both positive and negative risks. Management of risks is prime objective of project management, which leads to successful delivery of project in terms of time, cost and quality. Articulate risk in a structured way, with advise from subject matter experts on the possible mitigation, is fundamental to bring best outcome.
