Cold calling is one of the most challenging and rewarding skills in sales prospecting. It can help you generate leads, build relationships, and close deals. Personally, I find it easiest to assess what my strategy is by analyzing my ICP within the context their team size. The larger the team the more people are involved in competing work and the smaller the team the more likely they are to outsource some of the workload. Knowing this I make an assumption about the pain points that each group is likely to be experiencing and develop a high level outreach strategy based on this.
Once you have identified your target market, you need to prepare your value proposition. Your value proposition is a concise and compelling statement that explains how your solution can help your prospect solve their problem or achieve their goal. It should highlight the benefits and outcomes of your solution, not just the features and functions. Your value proposition should also differentiate you from your competitors and create curiosity and urgency in your prospect. You should prepare different versions of your value proposition for different segments of your target market and test them to see which ones resonate the most.
99% of the time when you cold call /email a prospect they will not have the time ? or mental ?? capacity to digest or care what you are selling. Hence your value proposition must be the problem you are going to solve in 10 words or less. Followed by a polite and professional request for a meeting. Anything more than that and I've already hung up, or deleted your email.
Once you have a holistic strategy based on what you think the teams pain points are, you can go one level deeper by tailoring the message to the persona. For example if I'm a VP I care more about the budget or ROI of a new product than I do about how it effects the day to day workflow of my employees. Whereas when you go a couple rungs down the ladder, a manager will care much more about the efficiencies gained and how much better it makes daily life at work. The point is that different people care about different things and so the value you provide them has to be translated in a way they can understand or at least relate to.
Cold calling is more effective when you combine it with other channels of communication, such as email, social media, and video. A multi-channel approach can help you increase your reach, frequency, and relevance with your prospects. You can use different channels to warm up your prospects, build rapport, share valuable content, and schedule your calls. You can also use different channels to follow up with your prospects, reinforce your value proposition, and move them along the sales cycle. You should use a CRM tool or a sales automation platform to track and manage your multi-channel campaigns and measure your results.
We all know that attention is in high demand, new distractions pop up everyday. This is why, if you haven't noticed, people with a large following on social media often get paid big bucks to talk about a business. When you're selling, you're doing the same thing on a much personalized level. Since you don't have the same platform as Taylor Swift (and what you sell is more complex) you have to meet your customer where there attention already is. Now that becomes a new challenge, and one which you can only solve with volume. Take advantage of automation tools (i.e. sending emails, social touches, etc.) along side your manual efforts (i.e.. personalized video/email, and calls). Multi-channel means working smart AND working hard. Do both!

It's also beneficial to anticipate the most common objections and rejections in advance and prepare your responses accordingly. Additionally, it's important to learn from your experiences and improve your skills and strategies.
The ultimate goal of your cold call is to move your prospect to the next step in the sales cycle. At the end of the call, you should ask for a clear commitment from your prospect for the next step, which could be booking a discovery call or demo, sending a proposal or quote, introducing you to another decision-maker or influencer, agreeing to a trial or pilot, or signing a contract or purchase order. Make sure that the next step is appropriate for your prospect's stage and readiness, and confirm all details and expectations of the step. Follow up with your prospect until the next step is executed.
