Do not be afraid! Walk up to people and introduce yourself. Ask them about themselves. Be open and curious. It is ok if the other person doesn't match your energy. Move on to the next person. Like anything else, being good at networking is something that takes time and practice. So don't shy away from it. The other thing is to put aside any egos and just be open for the ride!

I think the perfect examples of networking I have is from the experience of two of my friends. One is my best friend. Since his time in journalism till his move to a renowned INGO, he networked like a fish needs water. He spoke with people and almost always made sure that these people remembered him. This helped him so much. The second would be my other friend who is currently living in Canada. She was quite selective about the people she spoke with. She checked out the profiles of people she was interested in forming a connection with over time and then reached out to them. In her mind, she made near-to-accurate profiles of each person. It was as if she had dossiers on each contact.
