In professional sports (and most high-performance endeavors), it takes years to know if a talent pans out and if the identification process is working. In the short-term, then, the best way to measure success is by making sure the process of identifying talent is sound and data-driven. If you can follow a good process, it’s more likely the overall program will be a success. In the medium term, you should start to see incremental improvements in performance from when someone first joins the team. If there’s no improvement, chances are you’ve missed performance and potential. In the long run, there is enough data to see both improvement and someone’s trajectory clearly.

It needs to be seen how well these athletes are doing in the long run. Are they reaching higher levels in their sports, like national or international competitions? Then, we look at the conversion rate & check how many of the identified talents actually make it to these higher levels. It's also important to see how the program is helping improve the overall skills of the athletes. We should listen to what the athletes and coaches say about the program. Are they finding it helpful? And let's not forget about keeping athletes interested and staying in the program. And finally, benchmarking & comparing our program with others like it can give us a good idea of how well we're doing.
