The type of leadership will differ as per the situation and people.As a leader one should have a checklist for oneself,develop a feedback mechanism to learn and focus on the why and not on the how for the problem area.

It is as though you are sitting in the front row of a master class on personal development when you are surrounded by exceptional leaders. It broadens your social circle and gives you motivation in addition to equipping you with the abilities you'll need to overcome obstacles throughout your life. Being surrounded by outstanding leaders inspires you to rise to the difficulties of the day and be the greatest leader you can be, much like planting seeds of success in your own personal garden.

As a leader you will be looking for certain behaviours from your team. In most teams these are around collaboration, problem solving, effective communication etc. When a team is disengaged they find problems . When they are engaged they offer solutions . During my coaching engagements with leaders, I have found the most conspicuous element is blindspots on the leadership style the leaders think they have vs how they actually show up in different situations and to different people. You can define your leadership style using the following steps: 1. Write down your own assessment of your style 2. Take a leadership psychometric assessment 3. Take a 360 feedback 4. Combine the above three and arrive at common elements 5. Review your organisation and your roles and see what kind of leadership styles you should use in different situations 6. Combine insights from 4&5 above to arrive at your desired leadership style Remember a good leadership style is always a blend of styles.

Leaders are measured on many key performance indicators like revenue, profit, customer acquisition & retention, net promoter scores, employee engagement etc. The softer aspects of leadership which we can glean from employee engagement and testimonials come closer to shed light on the "climate" the leader has created. If we can fix the climate and motivation, the employees will be more productive and the results will definitely be more positive. One dangerous assumption any leader can make is to believe that their followers are oblivious to their flaws. Your blind spots are clear to those you lead and it is best you sincerely ask them to share with you. This will not work if you are known to be vindictive or have not created the right environment which makes it easy for others to share with you. Secondly, you must be willing to carry out self examination and share with the team what you believe your shortcomings are. This works often to create the right atmosphere as your team often feel comfortable knowing that you know what they know, your flaws.

One of the best ways to learn whether you are doing things right or not is to ask for feedback from those around you. This means you get an idea of what more can be done to get better results.

Observe others, identify what they do well and what you don't appreciate in their leadership style. Compare it against your own, adjust where appropriate. Try a change for a month, reflect and change/continue depending on findings.
