1 Prevent disruptions

2 Address disruptions

Sometimes, despite your best efforts, disruptions may occur during your facilitation. In that case, it is important to address them promptly and constructively, without ignoring or escalating them. You can pause and acknowledge the disruption by saying something like "I notice that there is some tension in the room" or "I hear that some of you have different opinions on this issue". Additionally, you can reframe the disruption as an opportunity by saying something like "This is a sign that we care about this topic" or "This is a chance to learn from each other's perspectives". Furthermore, you can redirect the disruption to the group by asking questions such as "How do you think we can resolve this situation?" or "What do you need from each other to move forward?". Active listening and empathy are also essential - try saying something like "I understand that you feel frustrated" or "I appreciate that you are passionate about this idea". 3 Resolve disruptions
