Additionally, unplanned absences, such as sick leave or emergencies, can disrupt testing timelines. Ideally, for an ongoing sprint, estimates should not change. Estimation depends on complexities, risks & efforts that are put in place. So, if there are change encountered during the course of sprint, it could be based on various reasons like change in requirement, requirements not clear, etc. In case of change in requirement it should be treated as new requirement & added back to the backlog, the delta part. In case of requirements not clear, we should retrospect & see why it was missed. Also, during the refinement phase, team should try to clarify the unknowns from the Product Owner. In case, it is something which team has missed and is high in priority, team should highlight the risk involved if that is delivered in the existing sprint.

Communicate transperently with the PO/Stakeholder of the same and negotiate on the trade Off's and alternatives. 7. Refine the backlog again to have the spring backlog user stories ready for the next sprint.

The estimation is a starting point, a best guess, from which the Sprint can be empirically constructed and managed. Scope change happens when capacity is at 100% or when we are rushed. Common practice right? Evaluate previous iterations and identify how much of unfinished work is due to additional scope (including due to conflicting requirements). Let's say 30% of 10 stories. So next sprint only plan 7 stories to allow for room for scope creep. Subsequent sprints try to improve your requirements for example, and try 8 stories. Etc. Never accept additional scope in a sprint or iteration. If this seems impossible, the business demand is still volatile. So either shorten the iteration so business can be helped sooner, and/or help the business improve scope definition. You can also try only to plan 50% of a PI event if you're doing SAFe.
