How can you manage change to support business growth?

Any kind of change is unsettling for those involved and those it may or may not impact directly. Anything that pushes us out of our comfort zones is usually not welcomed so one of the key drivers would be share the rationale for the change and transparent and open lines of communication.

?? In my experience, assessing the need for change requires a nuanced approach beyond just SWOT. ?? Data-Driven Decision Making Use quantitative data to support the change rationale. Align metrics with strategic objectives. ?? External Benchmarking Compare with industry best practices. Identify where you stand & where you want to be post-change. ?? Stakeholder Mapping Identify & prioritize stakeholders. Understand their influence & interest in the change. ?? A comprehensive assessment combines data, industry standards, and stakeholder insights.

Use Stick People 1. Storytelling: Instead of a traditional statement, tell a narrative that engages emotions and imagination. A story that vividly paints the picture of your future state. Keep the story going. 2. Lay The Premise, Then Collaborate: Don’t isolate, so lay the key premise & involve diverse wise stakeholders in building the change strategy. 3. Visual Roadmaps: Visuals can make it easy to understand, such as flowcharts, timelines, infographics, or stick people to present your change strategy. Don’t underestimate stick people. 4. Simple Metrics: Introduce simple metrics, allowing you to adjust and be flexible. Don’t overcomplicate the strategies towards success. Make everything baby steps, no matter how sophisticated the team.

Reward, Reminder, Reinforcement, Reiteration, & Resource You may not be the voice everyone wants to hear, but you can be the reason. When younger, I learned it was best to get one of my brother's friends to convince them of the proper steps I wanted them to take. I carried it into business. I want to use the voice my people want to hear to get the message across quickly. You would think paid professionals wouldn't require this, but don't, and don't take it personally. Instead of presenting a predefined change plan, you sometimes plant a fundamental changes among critical stakeholders to do the heavy lifting to get others involved. Create small wins celebrations, that serve as a reward, reminder, reinforcement, reiteration, & resource.

Reward The Few To Encourage The Many The old concept "Reward the few to encourage the many" is still consistent with many motivational leadership styles. BUT! It is a true-balancing act, you best understand timing, the culture of your people, and the importance of the change strategy when you do it. You may encourage and motivate a larger audience by honoring & appreciating the contributions of accomplishments of a group or individuals, if a team feels they are deserving. Morale within an organization can be raised when people see that efforts are recognized and rewarded. This tactic can be handy, but you better be a true tactician to use it. When in doubt, turn to the team to know who among them is worthy at that time, yes at that time.

Change is like caring for an infant – a never-ending cycle of tending to evolving diaper changes and constantly dealing with people's needs. When you think you've mastered one stage, a new one begins, and you continue to adapt and grow, nurturing the future. Change is a baby that never grows up, but you do.
