In my opinion, in order to manage big data you need to know the proper tools and platforms to manage big data. By knowing these this will allow any data individual to ensure the data is being used properly and not taking a risk of losing specific data or any data for that matter. Because if you're a Data Professional you know it literally only takes a few words in a query to delete a bunch of data in a table or a database.
