How can you make your teaching relevant to students' future careers?

Isso envolve desenvolver o raciocínio lógico e analítico, fundamentais n?o só para a matemática, mas também, para o mundo do trabalho. Ademais, incentivo o pensamento crítico e a criatividade, para que aprendam a solucionar problemas de maneiras inovadoras. Promovo aulas com aprendizagem por jogos ou gamifica??es, que estimulam o desenvolvimento de softs skill: como colabora??o, comunica??o, trabalho em equipe e entre outras. Meu compromisso com a atualiza??o contínua das metodologias de ensino assegura-me uma educa??o holística e adaptada às exigências do mundo moderno.

I actually disagree with this approach. Most of my student don't know what "they want to be when they grow up." I myself didn't decide on teaching as a career path until I returned to school after 9 years in automotive quality assurance. A career I never envisioned at any point in my life. I find my students find comfort in my lack of finality. They realize it is ok, to not know. The point of education is open their mind to possibilities, to show them how things operate in the world, to get them to explore. This will put them on a path to develop and figure out their next steps. The connections at that point will be self evident. It also means if they are me, and they don't know they are prepared for life while they figure it out.

Identifying the skills that students need is only part of this process. What I would argue as paramount is that these skills are made explicit to students and they’re given the opportunity to reflect on them as part of the assessment process. The process that students go through to arrive at the assessment product is as important as the product itself. By reflecting on the process, students would have the opportunity to develop their metacognition as well as key academic skills e.g., assessing the credibility of sources, reflective skills.

One thing I have found helpful in nursing education is to provide the students with my previous real-life experiences related to the concept or topic we are discussing in class. It helps them to make connections and shows them how what they are learning translates into practice. I have also created lectures as an interactive unfolding case study to teach the concept, which allows them to learn and put it into practice immediately. They are introduced to a patient and a disease process, and follow the patient through the course of the disease and treatment. Their choices during the case study will direct the lecture so that they can see what happens when they select the correct actions and how incorrect actions can cause patient harm.

So often we hear students talk about their hindsight regarding what they were learning in an earlier course. Only after some time, do they see the relevance of the material to particular applications in the work they are excited to pursue. Whenever possible make the material real and applied for the students. Some students will benefit very much from this information and they might be the students who really need the opportunity to see how their education is going to make change in their world!

While teaching fundamentals is crucial, relating coursework to real-world applications is key. Have students analyze case studies and solve open-ended problems mirroring challenges in their intended careers. Guide them to make explicit connections, like how physics formulas calculate forces inside an engine. Empowering students to tackle undefined situations makes school more engaging and builds critical lifelong skills. Structure collaborative projects for diverse viewpoints. Maintain high expectations not just to impart knowledge but to equip students as capable professionals and engaged citizens shaping the future.

As I mentioned above under # 2, the stories that the teacher shares with authenticity and genuineness, weaved with innovative articulation, will hold the attention of audience and will also trigger their reflective thinking process. Such reflections act like self-coaching for the students and will make them better-prepared for future. A good teacher never just shares information; he triggers reflective thinking in his students.

Imagine que as atividades tragam tanto valor e criatividade às aulas que automaticamente os alunos sejam impelidos a trazerem feedbacks embasados no que vivenciaram, utilizando argumentos teóricos bem alinhados ao ensino. Com isso é possível fazer com que o ato de ensinar tenha significado e as aulas, além de técnicas, sejam dialógicas, vivenciais e reflexivas. Pense no qu?o significativas podem ser as aulas dentro de uma institui??o que se prop?e a fazer diferente.

Don't be afraid of feedback! One way I think kind of useful in getting feedback from the students so we - students and the teachers can improve ourselves. 1. Feedback from the students to the teachers - sometimes can be anonymous -I have received a long letter from the students, throwing out what they feel inside. it's kind of comforting when read those coming from the bottom of their heart. 2. Feedback to the students - always start with praise and highlight your students' achievements. Feedback is a platform for the students to know their strengths and weaknesses.

Minha abordagem inclui demonstrar esses valores na prática docente, reconhecendo fontes, respeitando perspectivas diversas e abordando dilemas éticos. Além disso, crio um ambiente de aprendizado positivo e de apoio, promovendo confian?a, colabora??o e respeito mútuo entre os alunos. Ao modelar e promover ativamente esses valores, acredito que estamos contribuindo n?o apenas para a forma??o acadêmica, mas também para o desenvolvimento de profissionais responsáveis e éticos, preparados para enfrentar os desafios éticos e sociais em suas trajetórias profissionais.

Des retours qui me sont faits, ce que les étudiants aiment ce sont les retours d'expériences, les exemples vécus qui leur permettent de se projeter. Les enseignements sont souvent théoriques, dans leur formulation ou dans les exemples qui sont utilisés. Par des exemples vécus, on embarque les étudiants car on revit nous-même le moment. Nos étudiants ont surtout besoin d'émotions pour être embarqués donc soit les leurs, si on a la chance de pouvoir utiliser des exemples qui leur parlent (plus facile avec ceux qui ont une première expérience professionnelle) ou avec la n?tre par identification / empathie. La projection par le rêve fonctionne aussi mais il faut qu'il partage un rêve commun (ou presque)

There is a constant technological revolution. Understanding of science is changing. The business models are changing. The customer behaviours and expectations are changing. What worked well yesterday quickly becomes obsolete tomorrow or in no time. When there is a constant change everywhere, every teacher has to constantly upgrade himself too not only with the latest information but also with novel modes and models of teaching. Staying connected with the stakeholders, such as employers, industry experts, other influencers and game changers, is so essential for the teachers, in order to continuously stay relevant and useful to the audience, and to continue to make an impact. As traditional ways become obsolete quickly, teachers shouldn’t.

We have to keep improving ourselves. Being a teacher doesn't mean we know everything. Being a teacher means we have to keep improving. So, which part we have to improve? 1. Knowledge in Course Content- to make sure our knowledge is up to date and the skills we teach the students are relevant, we have to keep improving our knowledge. Don't be afraid to join any class, webinars, or take any certificate. 2. Skills in teaching - we can no longer rely on slides, notes and books only. We have to be innovative. Instead of teaching software engineering in class, we can go outside, walk around and identify the problem that we can solve.

Encourage learning that spans multiple disciplines, reflecting the interconnected nature of the modern work environment. This approach helps students see the broader application of their skills and understand how different fields collaborate in real-world scenarios. For example, integrating elements of business management into a science curriculum can prepare students for roles in biotech companies where both sets of skills are crucial. Foster an entrepreneurial spirit and the ability to innovate within your students. This can involve teaching methods that encourage creative thinking, problem-solving, and the ability to turn ideas into action.

For many academics at the collegiate level, the first step should be acquiring foundational teaching skills and knowledge. In K-12 education and college departments of education, ongoing training and improvement are mandatory. It’s surprising that this isn’t a universal requirement across all sectors of education. Regardless of the level, every educator should be equipped with the tools to effectively teach and engage their students, yet this standard isn’t always upheld in higher education.

As a preschool teacher, fostering a curriculum that cultivates skills essential for future careers is paramount. Integrating activities focused on problem-solving, critical thinking, creativity, and communication lays a strong foundation. Incorporating technology as a tool for learning and exploration can familiarize children with its applications early on. Introducing various professions through imaginative play, career-themed activities, and community engagement helps broaden their understanding of diverse occupations. Encouraging teamwork, adaptability, and resilience through group projects and challenges prepares them for the collaborative nature of future workplaces.

I have been posting a lot recently about AI and obviously I would advocate that incorporating this into our teaching is critical in making teaching relevant to students’ future careers. However, at the same time I do think we need to be careful about adopting an overly utilitarian approach to education. I would argue that the most important thing to help students prepare for their future careers is teaching them well in our own particular subjects. Through studying History, for instance, students will learn a wide range of historical skills, but equally these will be transferable and useful later. The very act and discipline of learning a subject in depth also teaches students vital habits for later life.

To make teaching relevant to students' future careers, incorporate real-world examples, invite guest speakers, and organize field trips. Assign project-based learning tasks and offer career guidance resources. Facilitate internships and apprenticeships for hands-on experience. Integrate technology tools used in the industry. Collaborate with industry professionals for mentorship and job shadowing. These strategies equip students with practical skills and knowledge, connecting classroom concepts to their future careers.
