How can you make your presentation stand out in a hybrid setting?

Drawing from my own experience, to make your presentation stand out in a hybrid setting, use engaging visuals, interactive elements, concise messaging, and seamless transitions between in-person and virtual attendees.

Understand the demographics, interests, and needs of both the in-person and virtual participants. Tailor your content to resonate with both groups, addressing their specific concerns and preferences.

My favourite 5 tips here are: 1. Press 'STOP SHARE' as often as possible and bring your meeting back to all the faces on the screen. 2. People who are virtual in a hybrid meeting feel like they can't hear the 'inside jokes' so be very careful to remind the people in the 'live' room that they shouldn't have side conversations or tell jokes/be funny in a way that the virtual people can't hear what's going on. 3. Be sure to remember to keep talking to the virtual people so they feel part of everything. 4. Use people's names often. 5. And finally, repeat what people have said (briefly) so the live or virtual audience can hear and understand. Good luck!

When doing a presentation to remote and in-person participants, be sure to make accessible for both groups. Try Zoom meetings and create PowerPoint files that can be shared or viewed online.

Cuando se trata de trabajar en ambientes híbridos es indispensable tener en cuenta varios aspectos, entre ellos las herramientas a utilizar. Si bien, será necesario contar con las herramientas audiovisuales adecuadas, es importante configurarlas previamente y verificar que cumplan con su objetivo. La cámara debe permitir mostrar al presentador y a su vez es necesario tener proyectada la presentación. Así mismo, colocar los micrófonos necesarios para que también pueda haber interacción entre ambas audiencias, y que no solo el presentador tenga la habilidad de hablar. Mi recomendación también es que haya una cámara que apunte hacia la audiencia, el contacto visual y la interacción es importante para generar ese vínculo e involucramiento.

En la comunicación, el ambiente es uno de los factores más importantes así que adecua tu ambiente para generar un impacto positivo. Puede ser una mejor cámara web, micrófono o tan sencillo como un background virtual.

Tell a story, enhance it with pictures, well known studies, laws theories etc. making it colourful will help capture the sight.

When giving presentations in hybrid format just don’t forget to see chat and there will be raised hands in online audience. Make sure you don’t ignore it.

Establish a connection with remote participants by maintaining eye contact with the camera and addressing them directly. Ensure equal participation by actively soliciting input from both in-person and remote attendees during discussions and Q&A sessions.

When hosting hybrid speaker training events, every group exercise has to be delivered differently for in-person and online. If you are doing group circles for in-person and breakout rooms for online, you have to consider: 1) How many in-person in a group vs online because the total numbers in the group will be different 2) Does the activity change in anyway for in-person vs online? 3) How do you need to describe the activity to the in-person group? How do you need to describe it to the online group? When it comes to hybrid, you have to consider every step for group activities and ensure that everything is clearly communicated to each group.

We have discovered that having a partner or assistant engaging with the virtual audience through an Instant Messaging tool is a great way to get their feedback and questions relayed to the greater group in a timely fashion. This helps us bring the virtual participants into the conversation. When asking a polling question the in-person participants can simply raise their hands for their vote while the virtual team can type in their response and your partner or assistant can help you tally the votes together.

Before even considering hybrid its all about conducting them individualy to get the exact taste. If you are familira with each style separately its all about practice. Its like you learning to drive. You learn to break and accelarate but when you practice you dont see those as two different tasks

I believe in order to achieve perfection, there should be continuous practice and rehearsal. It cuts across almost all professions. In a hybrid presentation, it is important the presenter acquaints him/herself with the dynamics of the setting, technology and audience. You might not have access to the ideal technology and setting for the presentation, but you can improvise with your laptop and smart phones. Ask some friends to join in! You should have backups to supplement network glitches. As a presenter, you need to be able to grasp the attention of both in person and online audience, by taking brief pauses to engage them if need be.

Also, take an objective look at your presentation beforehand and ask yourself what resources you can provide via links in chat or in an FAQ that is sent prior to the presentation to help alleviate the potential workload.

In general I'm not a fan of hybrid. I know that for a while Atlassian had a rule that if anyone couldn't make the meeting live, then everyone logged on and everyone was virtual. This way you keep the delivery method standard for all attendees. Quite cool actually! In am often asked to deliver my corporate training in a hybrid way. We say no. Either everyone is live or everyone is online - that way we an guarantee the outcomes.
