In my tech experience of 21 years I have used several dbms including SQL, oracle, mysql, posgres, and ms access. The only thing I was taught in class was how to write SQL queries, what indexes were, table relationships, and data normalization. The rest of the things were self taught because of the solid foundation. Then came the era of data science and business intelligence, here I self learned about data cubes, data warehousing, and business intelligence tools like power Bi and dev express dashboards because I had solid foundation on creating views and charts. Knowledge gain is an incremental process like spiral or scaffolding structure where the inner most or lower most solid foundation holds the next one, building a very solid structure.
