This greatly depends on employer on how this is handled, but some sort of presentation will be required in some format to review designs. It's good to keep in mind that some employers may want you to have PowerPoints with bullet points or some may just want you to open the cad model on the conference screen to discuss. Being able to communicate is crucial and able to do it in a timely manner is even more so. Depending on procedure, you may have up to a dozen people in a room for this review. Every minute wasted will really start adding up in lost labor time. Also, don't spend too much time prepping for a meeting, your design may suck and will need updated anyways, so jump in early to find these issues early.

The presentation should be more informative and whoever reviews the presentation should understand the design. Only focus what is our objective.

It doesn't help to speak in vague context. If there is feedback needed, then it's because whatever is being discussed happened in a project. Explain what the project was/is and where your discussion point happened. If that has been identified in other projects, show them as well. If it is a problem, explain how it's affecting the end result and any other ramifications. If it's a positive, discuss how it impacted the project positively.

We were given two ears and one mouth. We should listen twice as much as we speak. Most people listen to comment. Not really taking in what is being said, just thinking about their response to an early comment made. Listen to understand. Then take a moment to think of your response.

This can be a tricky one, especially when a review has a larger amount of people involved. Some things that can help this portion is: 1. When someone is speaking, let them finish. 2. If you are someone who constantly shut's down someone's idea or interrupts, be prepared to lose respect amongst your peers. 3. Once you have listened to a specific point of view, it may be reasonable to respond, do so in a polite manner. Sometimes it is not necessary to respond other than acknowledgement of the point. 4. You don't always have to agree with the feedback, especially if you have good reasoning for your design choice (YOU are the expert of the design) 5. Recap the session with the pertinent feedback and what items you will take action on.

In a meeting like this, there's no place for pride. Something happened - good or bad - and needs to be addressed. Whatever is said is not criticism, but insight, and whoever gives that insight is simply doing what they were asked to do. Conversely, any praise should be taken with humility and grace. Again, this is not the arena for general comments. It's to discuss in precise terms how to move forward. Good idea to have some sort of standard template you can follow for feedback, or take real time notes during the meeting to capture all important info. It's also wise to note who said what to help prevent confusion later on in the future.

Additionally , we in the FDA industries call it - "redlining", where we create drafts of designs based on user feedback or design feedback and mark up drawings as needed. This visual feedback loop is crucial to reaching common consensus within the OEM and the Supplier as to what to make, and whether designs are feasible from a DFM perspective.

Secondly, when possible, all who contributed should be given some kind of responsibility in crafting the changes. Life in general is all about constantly growing and learning so it is good to learn whatever you can from each experience. With that said, sometimes meetings are very boilerplate and there won't be a learning lesson. And it's okay to request feedback, but doing so often can come off as showing a lack of confidence in your own abilities. Some companies do quarterly evaluations/discussions that can help lead these discussions. But as usual, communication is key, and talking directly with your lead/manager and asking them to to help setup a review plan can be beneficial.

Obviously, it would be unusual for every employee to be in on a thinktank session, unless it's a small company. So, any new ideas and procedures must be shared with the rest of the firm. Create a training video or videos with the new information or procedures, or give a class or classes and record those. Positive feedback always improves someone's workday. When anyone has a good idea and it's brought into use, never fail to broadcast the idea, it's new role in company protocol AND who is responsible. Once you do that, who wouldn't want to have that repeated? And if they want it repeated, they start looking for more new ideas. If you have 5, 10, 16 people doing that, suddenly you have a large resource of new insights. Use your resources!

In R&D, CAD represents 3D concept which want to mature to prototype. During a design review, we can open the 3D model for demo. As it is 3D, keeping it opening and taking sections at adequate area help us communicate the idea more effectively.

I feel that a little more clarity is required with this question. First is this a team made up of just the team within your organization or is it made up of external team members such as other consultants or clients. My experience has been that if it is strictly internal then there is much more give and take and do not agree that you should just listen there should be clear communication of ideas and responses. That being said if this is a client presentation with outside consultants present then yes listen and take in all ideas. After the meeting do your due diligence with these suggestions and either rule in or rule out each one.
