An exit interview should be the last discussion, after different follow-ups (first month, first 6 months, after 1 year etc.). All is (pretty much) lost when we get to the exit discussion. 1. Have an honest discussion and respect the decision. 2. Write down all the information with details (don't just rely on ticking a questionnaire). 3. Don't force the person to tell you details they don't want to (e.g. what company they are going to, why they chose that company). 4. Stay open and connected with the person who is leaving.
