Staying connected with former volunteers is very important. My personal experience showed that both sides can benefit from keeping the relations. For instance, after finishing my volunteering project I agreed to continue volunteering to my medium organization as a volunteers' mentor. So basically I was helping out new volunteers who were arriving in my service country to fit in the community, giving some tips and staying with them in general. Out of this experience, I got a really nice line in my CV stating Volunteer Mentor experience and could see a number of invisible details that I missed during my volunteering project. So overall, even after finishing the project volunteering can be beneficial to the organization and contrary.

I have found that having a set in stone same day every month, or week meeting is an amazing way to keep volunteers coming back. When a person volunteers it's usually because they want to. And having a space with people you know and that already know you is truly a wonderful thing. You build a community and a network outside your own home, people who have either experienced or relate to that group, it could be early learning or the criminal justice system. Another way is email it takes like 2 minutes to write up an email either to send resources or just to say hello and send it, it don't cost you anything and it makes someone feel cared about.

If you have a group of volunteers you will definitely have a channel of communication such as Facebook or WhatsApp groups. Every time you need extra helpful hands you can still use those channels. As a former volunteer am always more than happy to accept additional volunteering opportunities.

I find there to be a lot of value in sending a follow up summary right after they volunteered with the results of their aid. This could be a little card that tells them how many mouths they fed, how many medical kits they did, how much money the event raised, etc. Another great is to have a personalized message come from the person they helped. A colored card from the child or whatever is applicable. This can help remind people of their why and may help them come back again.

I agree, but this can be hard depending on the situation so it might require some creativity and intention. I use to work with many college-level student volunteers at a previous job. It was difficult to maintain relationships with students that graduated because I was always very preoccupied with the current volunteer groups.
