When making a call you must have purpose and also a desired outcome. It’s the same when you leave a voicemail. Other people have referred to the tone and pace. For me one of the most important things is to have enthusiasm. Project your excitement into the voicemail and leave a clear message that explains why the prospect should call you back. Certainly never pitch on the voicemail.

Like would be done for the call itself .. Have a plan and practice for that outcome. Definitely no repeating what the message was. Leave the planned message and go ?? DB

If I leave a voicemail I keep in mind that they will likely not listen to the message, they will however READ the voice to text transcript. So make it short, purposeful and I always tell them "No need to call me back, I am going to send you an email right now just respond to that" Works very well for me lately!

Use VM as a voicemail, not a pitch repository :D Be Crisp, be specific about why you called, leave the call back number. (You may choose to refer to an email that you've sent out), but, try and sum it all up in less than 30 Seconds. I usually leave VMs like, "Hey *name of the prospect*, My name is, wanted to chat about *BE SPECIFIC*, My call back number is *...*. Good day to you."

In my experience, understanding the "Why" of why someone should listen to your voicemail & return the call is crucial. Why should they call you back? What's in it for them? Understanding this helps you to leverage your voicemails in a manner that's relevant. The chances of anybody returning a voicemail is trivial anyway, don't diminish whatever chances remain, spewing your pitch. There's time for that :P

It is a crucial part of the VM. Give them a purpose to call you back. Have the What is in it for me mentality that the prospect will have. As mentioned already by others, It is about them not you. Sell the solution, not the product. I guarantee there are 100 VM saying the same BS.

Not if, but when. Specifying when to call back, even if you just say as soon as you can, is much much better than saying call me back IF you get a moment, or IF you're interested.

I don’t think you need a crystal clear value pitch over voicemail. The only goal of a VM is to get them to call back- it’s not a place to try and sell. So, I only focus on “CTAs” that cause intrigue in the prospect’s mind, so that they dial me back

My most used VM: Say: “hey _____, I was calling about _____. I’m about to send an email titled “just called,” so no worries about calling back. Thanks!” Then they’re primed to see that and do something with it

A voicemail won't convert often unless you have Morgan Freeman's voice. Instead, you should consider it another touch point, ideally pointing to a stronger channel. If you've sent a great email, point to that; if your LinkedIn profile is good, go for that. All channels should support one another to start a conversation.

Unless the VM is offering them 1,000,000$ it is more than likely they will not call you back. But now if you mention "I just called and reached out via LinkedIn" you are creating that awareness and intriguing them to look more into you. It's 'different strokes for different folks' when it comes to voicemails. Some people respond better to VM's, others respond better to emails or InMails. You will work out what channel is best for each individual over time. If you've spoken with someone before - you should reference that in a VM, but also leverage other channels if they don't respond. With more people WFH - I always leave a VM on a mobile, as generally people have to listen to them. Unlike email - you can't judge the contents before you listen. Plus how many VM's vs emails do you get?

A lot of people will not listen to your voicemails. They will however READ the speech-to-text transcript. So, not to sound like a broken record among the other sellers here but I like to leave a voicemail where at the very end I say something along the lines of "No need to call me back, I will send an email right now so just respond to that..." My first real grown up job out of college was being an outside sales rep for a large uniform company. Two days a week we had to hit the phones to set up appts for the following week. We did sales training and did role plays but let me tell you one of the most impactful things we did, after all that... was to record my voicemails that I was leaving on prospects phones and then listening back to them. THEY WERE AWFUL. Such a great task to do and has, 15 years later, always stayed with me. Record the next 3 voicemails you leave, and go listen to them as mortification sets in. It's all uphill from there!

Nobody likes to hear their own voice, but practice makes perfect. Leave yourself voicemails with different variations of your value statement/script. Voice aside, if you don't like the content you're hearing, chances are your prospect won't either.
