Exit Strategy. This is normally the part which is vague, wishy-washy or unclear but it is the most important part. If there is no liquidity event then the investors capital is stuck/lost forever. There needs to be IPO listing, acquisition or some form of liquidity event that allows the investor to exit. If it is a profitable exit then great but even if it is not then 'Loss Tax Relief' can be claimed in the UK. If a company cannot clearly outline its exit strategy from the start then it is a red flag in my mind and I am stating this with several years of experience investing in start ups.
