It is very important as the lead editor or a post supervisor to understand the clients perspective first and then convey the same to the team.Also not everyone in the team has equal understanding of filmmaking or expertise in the art. So to break it down and communicate in that zone becomes important. In the end irrespective of anything everyone in the team show have the same picture in mind that they are supposed to do.

A lot of directors are about control for an individual vision, but what I try to foster in a film project is creative agency towards a shared vision. I bring the cast and crew in early in the story and design process and we work together to manifest something greater than what one person can imagine.
I guess experimentation also means using new technologies in your creations. In the end, film is a very technological form of art. We depend on cameras, lights, etc. I guess also embracing artificial intelligence tools in ways that can benefit your specific project can be of great advantage. Maybe you can use AI to create pitch decks, storyboards, envision characters, make-up, set design. Or maybe you′re using tools that analyze script or audience and marketing strategies.
Experimentation is the way you put together that makes it “experimental.” Experimental filmmakers often use techniques like editing, special effects, camera angles, lighting, and sound to disorient the viewer, forcing them to think more about what they're seeing than simply watching it unfold.

Ask for feedback from your team as well, and be open to their comments, questions, and criticisms.
I find the best time to provide feedback is a day or two after a project has wrapped up (if you're on set, a day or two after you've completed your last shot; if you're editing, a day or two after the final project has been submitted to the producer/director; etc.). You want the project to be fresh in your mind, yet it's necessary to let the thoughts of it sit for a day or two when you're less stressed and can allow the creative process to work!
Feedback is a two-way street. Leaders who are receptive to feedback from their team demonstrate humility and a genuine commitment to collective growth. Done right, feedback doesn't just improve the film—it strengthens the bonds of the team and sets the stage for continued innovation and excellence.

Reward innovation in various ways, such as giving praise, recognition, incentives, opportunities, and autonomy to your team.
I can think of three great ways to award innovation within film. 1. Give them the credit. How often do people in the film industry make something great and they never get any credit for it because it wasn't their main role. Acknowledge it in the credits and tell everyone that the sound mixers idea changed the story for the better and now they get credit for more than being the sound mixer etc. 2. Put them on your next project. We are all looking for work and go from one project to the next. Recommend them to others and put the word out that they were great to work with. Don't gate keep your innovators. 3. Show them you value those innovations by paying them better next time you work with them and therefore acknowledging the greater value

In my experience, all my failures have helped me and my team, because wr know what not and what to do on our next project. More specially when it comes to creativity and planning.

Yes, I always feel like each film is film school in itself. You never stop learning, not only about the filmmaking process but also about yourself and your artistic vision.

Innovation is sadly mistaken only with technology where as in M&E the fulcrum that drives the business is content. That’s the area of stagnation. Society is evolving and so are archaic values. Next level innovation must come from shifting the value system by dialing the ante a bit up. We risk ourselves of disconnecting with young viewers by sticking to safe science of the craft. If Nolan is still a mass hero because he understands it, practices it and delivers it. Innovation must stimulate young minds and challenge conventions.
One thing I've learned is that the greatest teacher was once the greatest student. In my experiences in the film and television industry is that you are as good as your last job.. approach each project with a fresher and newer perspective.
