Everyone has stories that will move people. No one, when they first start, delivers engaging stories. Telling great stories is two parts art, one part science, and eleven parts practice. Key to audience engagement is delivering a relevant story. Tell your stories, tell stories of a common man, tell stories from everyday walk on life, tell stories of genuineness and bringing true self to work, tell stories that instill pride, tell stories of empowering teams and individual, build trust and togetherness. Once we relate, they relate, we inspire, they get inspired

Choosing stories that are relevant to our topic and audience. When we share our own personal stories we create authentic connection, relatability and vulnerability. Even if the audience doesn't have a similar situation they can relate to in their own life….they can still relate to the ways of being and lessons that the speaker is sharing and the journey they went through to get to where they are today!

Our brains are wired for learning from story. In fact, so much so they believe what we tell them. Before the written word, storytelling is all we humans had. Hearing a transformational story of how someone went from adversity (external or internal), what they did, heard, or thought that changed them and gave them the courage they so desperately needed - brings courage to the person listening or reading the story.

I use stories all the time to shift people towards courage. They are all true and close to me. First I make the setting sensory - so they can visualise it, smell it, taste it and feel it. Then you build the character of the protagonist - you include the similarities with those in the audience and then talk of what you noticed in their presence. An attitude, a physical characteristic. As the story unfolds details are important (tell a child a story without these datails and they will ask you to fill in the blanks) the outcome must be 'dramatic' a surprise 'a bit of theatre' I once brought that person on stage - it was a wow. FInally, you put your audience slowly in the character as you progress. So that in end they emerge as the hero.

To inspire courage through storytelling, focus on highlighting character transformations, showcasing how they overcome fears and obstacles to achieve goals and change lives positively. Emphasize the benefits of taking action by sharing stories of activists who made a difference by raising their voice, gaining confidence, recognition, and impact. Measure audience engagement, actionable takeaways, and emotional impact to gauge the effectiveness of storytelling in inspiring listeners to take positive actions and find courage in their own journeys.

Los resultados son lo que más desea cualquier persona: el proceso es lo más desconocido. Por eso es importante el usar los resultados como motivación para realizar el proceso. Porque habrá momentos de muchas dudas para esa persona que está avanzando y es, justo ahí, cuando tiene que recordar el motivo que le ha generado la acción (la motivación). Cuanto más poderoso sea ese motivo será mas "fácil" que esa persona resista y supere los desafíos. Nuevamente, nuestra labor como conferenciantes es entender qué le motiva a esa persona, qué transformación y qué objetivos desea para ense?arle que realmente es posible lograrlos ... siempre y cuando avance por el camino y desarrolle todo el proceso.

The transformation is sometimes subtle, sometimes it's a huge gesture and moment, but it is never something abstract. If the transformation is just a thought, it won't land with most audiences. That is why it is crucial that you find a way to embody the transformation. Maybe it's through posture, through a new action, a new behavior, a tough and daring decision. Either way it is, display it with your body. Create an action-based scene that showcases the transformation. We are empathic creatures due to the many mirror neurons that are activated when we see other humans do things. Leverage that empathy and help the audience walk in your shoes in that particular moment. And thus, that transformation becomes a shared experience.

I agree! Breaking down the obstacles and who the speaker had to become in order to push through and navigate those obstacles. The audience benefits the MOST when they can relate to the speaker and feel a sense of genuine connection and trust. They want to be inspired by the speakers story and be open to the possibilities and opportunities ahead for them!

Emphasize the journey of transformation and growth that occurs when individuals summon the courage to face their fears or confront challenges. Illustrate how courage leads to personal development, resilience, and empowerment. Share stories of individuals who have emerged stronger and more resilient as a result of their courageous actions.

I've seen firsthand how sharing personal battles, complete with fears and triumphs, connects deeply, inspiring others to face their own challenges with bravery. Vulnerability can be magnetic. When I refer to my days spent sleeping on the streets of London, it is not to garner sympathy. Rather it is to demonstrate resistence to fate and a determination to change my life. But it also gives me an opportunity to talk of how words can wound and lift people. This part of the story is repeated again and again by audience members, because it has been lived. 'Being taken by a charity to a hostel on a cold December night, I was shown into a tiled room, told to strip and then hosed down. I escaped back on the streets humiliated. There I had some dignity. A few years later, I was welcomed on to a construction site as a labourer and told I was building a palace.

Absolutely—-vulnerability is BEAUTIFUL. When we as speakers are authentic and vulnerable on stage we also give the audience permission to do the same. As a speaker we have the biggest impact when the audience relates to is as human beings and not a performance on a stage!

Although perfection is something people may aspire to, and may be something to be admired, it is not something people can relate to. So while we may want to impress people with how good we are, we can make more human connections if we reveal and admit our imperfections, trials and challenges. Relate stories about struggles, lessons learned, and how challenges were overcome. Using humor, especially self-deprecating humor, can help people relate, and thus make your story and information more meaningful. This may increase the likelihood of people ultimately following your call to action

By sharing personal mistakes and growth, one connects with listeners on a human level. Avoiding arrogance and embracing humility enhances resonance, encouraging others to confront their own doubts and challenges with courage.

None of us are perfect. We've stumbled, fallen, and faced our fair share of fears. But it's in those moments of vulnerability that we truly connect with one another. I've walked a path filled with setbacks and challenges. Once a school dropout, I faced uncertainty and doubt about my future. Yet, through perseverance and determination, I found my way. When I'm given the "stage", I delight in sharing it with my audience. For over a decade, I've hosted story-sharing gatherings called Show & Tales where I invite my audience to share the stories of the Things they keep, the Things that matter, the Things they will leave behind. I've found that in most events there's very little to no time allotted for the majority of people to share their own stories. I've also found that storytelling has become so competitive it's lost its most basic human ability to truly connect us to ourselves & one another. I've seen the healing power of sharing stories of the Things that matter.

Audience participation as a speaker is wjat keeps them fully engaged, the energy of the room up and also it is fun for BOTH the speaker and the audience! Studies show we learn best when we are also having fun!

Los resultados son consecuencia de la acción, no de la reflexión ... siempre lo digo. Por mucho que tu audiencia salga del evento con muchas ideas, si no pasa a la acción, no conseguirá resultados. Y si no consigue resultados, ?qué crees que opinarán de tu intervención?: ya te adelanto que es muy difícil que reconozcan que el motivo de no conseguir los objetivos es ... porque no han dado ni un paso !! Por eso es importante que les generes o plantees una primera acción para llevarla a cabo ... ya !!

A skilled storyteller doesn’t always conclude with a direct call to action. Instead, they leave the ending slightly ambiguous. Why? Because each person possesses a unique worldview. Sometimes, listeners require time to digest the narrative, and occasionally, fresh insights emerge later. The true strength lies in the metaphor’s artful vagueness.

A compelling call to action serves as a motivator for your audience. When you encourage your audience to apply what they've learned from your story, you reinforce the message and make it more relevant to their lives. This application enhances the retention and internalization of key insights or lessons.

There is power in storytelling for people to see a mirror image of what is possible in their own life, through the power and courage of your story. Storytelling is like a movie with a start middle, and ending where you take your audience on a journey, giving them relevant stories along the way of how you found your voice and courage, giving them inside into how they can find their own voice and courage..
