How can you improve your videography skills through a course?

Getting into a course will not only provide you with a mentor which can evaluate your work and give you constructive feedback, but this can also provide you with a valuable network that you can benefit on for your future projects. In this industry, getting into a network of professional is very valuable.

Another thing that I found important was taking Photography as a College course. The next was doing the research on investing in the greatest camera for shooting high-quality shots then taking repetitions in review after planning then executing personal projects at your preferred locations.

Research and select a course that matches your skill level, goals, and budget. Look for reputable institutions, online platforms, or local schools that offer videography courses. Define what you want to achieve with the course. Whether it's mastering camera operation, video editing, or storytelling, having clear goals will help you stay focused. Learn to use your camera and other equipment effectively. Understand settings, lenses, lighting, and sound equipment to capture high-quality footage. Gain proficiency in video editing software like Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or DaVinci Resolve. Learn to cut, edit, and enhance your footage effectively.

There are a lot of people who will claim you don't need a degree to get into the industry. This is true, you don't NEED it. But here's what I learnt from studying video production at University. It was never about the piece of paper at the end, or about what I learnt in the modules. It was the ability to spend everyday for two years doing nothing but living and breathing filmmaking. From work experience, to class mates projects to my own projects. It was all absolutely invaluable and gave me so much knowledge that online learning never could!

I always remembered that the Liberal Arts of Film and Music is to be viewed as subliminal medicine for the masses from my personal perspective.

You need to be able to show your skills in your portfolio. So if you take a course, use what you learned and apply it to your videography. Then update your portfolio to show your new skills.

Don't just rely on the course content either. Take what you've learnt and try and apply it in other areas. If you've produced a small advert as a module, head out, find a product, a coffee shop, anything. Put your skills to use again in a new environment and help those abilities stick.

The entire industry is based on niche! Comedy, Action, Romance, etc. Dig into your niche and really develop your lane. You will make the right connections and relationships to support each other on the journey to success! Helping filmmakers is a very rewarding experience. Actors use a lot of coursework to constantly develop their skills and everyone should take a cue from them! There is so much more to the business than knowing how to set a scene.

There are many, many paths to take on your journey. Knowing which direction to go in is the key. The beautiful thing about this industry is how versatile it is. You will be able to explore while you make money, build your reel, make life long connections, and make an impact on the world!
