Lastly, treat them as friends. And one final piece of advice: ensure fairness among them.

I have found a rule that's incredibly effective in my animation work. Before starting any project, I plan and prepare for at least a day. On execution day, I use the 25-5 Pomodoro technique. Work for 25 mins, then take a 5-min break. This helps me stay focused and productive. This sounds too mechanical, what I would say is look at the whole project everyday, and even if things are off track - push it ahead by a little bit every single day

In my experience breaking down the project starting from a holistic bird's eye view and slowly working down to the minute details always works best. Using storyboarding as an example: -The first step would be to create a set of key drawings that tell the overall arc of the story. -The second step would be to sketch out the shots (just one frame each) that happen between one key drawing and the next. -The third would be to further detail each shot with acting suggestions, character and prop movements, camera movements etc. -The fourth would be to go into finer details of every shot and if you are doing an animatic, timing each shot. This method can be followed for every phase of the film making process.

Please don't use Gantt charts! They're productivity killers, Kanban boards are AMAZING for creative peeps like animators and illustrators. Trello's free version is more than enough to get started.

Some tools have more accessible online resources and communities than others, so it's crucial to note this when picking your software.

My advice is to always use the tools that you are most comfortable with as a kickoff point, whether just to draft a mockup or to start the actual product. It's also never too late to switch gears! Everyone works a little differently, and many tools can accomplish the same goal effectively in different ways. I can't count the number of times I've worked on a project, just to get stuck, reevaluate, and immediately gain a new perspective and be able to keep going using a different tool. If nothing else, it's good to get a different angle on things to problem solve when you don't quite know your next move, even if it's only to confirm you were using the right tool all along.

Use the softwares you are most comfortable with. Most important process of time management is that you don't spend a lot of it in deciding and contemplating. What matters is the quality that you are delivering. Tools are just like different books, many may share the same knowledge in different ways. I swear by Triage - everyday list out what you need to do in priority order - focus on your top issues - and then stick to it. Don't be distracted from this. If you don't get everything done (you won't) then at least you will have tackled the most important - and you can reset & juggle the next day. Using the right tool for your need. Take Blender. Blender can do a lot of stuffs but probably not the fastest approach. If you are only retopoing its not right to use the tool that is not as good. Maya probably isn't very good with clothes like Marvelous Designer. -know your need -know your solution which software can give it to you -have a production schedule which is a must -a project (art) is never finished its only ever met the deadline - use a time-tracking tool if you are really fighting with time

Goodbye common sense. When a client look at an animation and start a question with: "Can you..." Anything else after the "Can you..." is the sound of their brain not being able to visualize. Some animations are absolutely complex, with tens of layers, hundreds of properties and some expressions here and there. Luckily Edit in Illustrator works well, and I don't need to restart from scratch for every change. But the absolutely most annoying request is to have a storyboard for an animation. Storyboards are meant for movie making, to show the actors and the camera operators what to so and how they would look like in the final output. But frankly, so we need to have a storyboard for a logo fading in?

Break down the process into not just milestones, but also layers of refinement. A completed project can invariably be enhanced; adding more layers to it post-completion really takes the final product to another step forward beyond expectations.

As far as I'm concerned making the music part of a cartoon, I would say there is no real way to organize, definitely the rush doesn't help also because you always talk about having the right inspiration for that cartoon. it is absolutely true that experience helps and that distractions can interrupt the creative process, but it is also equally true, and this is absolutely real in my industry, that distractions can be inspirational, as opposed to necessarily wanting to make something stadno locked and conceptualized in an office.
