1 Use a maturity model

A maturity model is a framework that defines the characteristics, best practices, and goals of different levels of software testing process maturity. There are several maturity models available, such as the Test Maturity Model Integration (TMMi), the Test Process Improvement (TPI), or the Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI). You can use a maturity model to evaluate your current testing process, identify gaps and areas for improvement, and plan and implement actions to reach a higher maturity level.

You can follow standard models like TMMI and they have recently released a rapid assessment tool. Allowing an individual to quickly assess the test maturity in their organisation or company. I would recommend getting some training from the framework to make best use of it. Do an assessment of current state vs the framework. See what needs to be done and plan an improvement project. Start with areas which allow you to gain the most benefit vs the effort. Don't lose focus on little things like training, templates and guides on best practice.
