The site @creativelive has free courses 24/7. I was always looking for the courses I liked and when they aired for free. Once I made some money, I paid for the membership and was able to watch all the training that I wanted. So much content available there! I am also listening to free podcasts about photography on Spotify.

There are tons of free content online, but you should focus more on what type of photography you would like to pursue on get more into and then focus on that. LinkedIn Learning for example was a great way for myself to transition to Underwater Photography, that I later put into practice.

So many opportunities to learn! Sites like the ones mentioned in the article along with free courses from sites like Creative Live, books from your local library, and companies like Apple can give you a great start. There are low cost courses that Creative Live offers as well as KelbyOne. Both started by amazing photographers in their own right! There is also sites like Linkedin that have excellent photography courses. YouTube is a great way to focus on the details and learn specifics of photography once you know what you're looking for. Channels like AdoramaTV and Creators like Peter McKinnon, Mark Denney, Thomas Heaton, and Matt Shannon will inspire and teach you. It is a great time to embrace and learn photography!

Find inspiration and get feedback from your online community but don't forget your local community as well. Sites like Instagram, 500px, and Vero is a great way to share your photos and find inspiration. They help you find photographers similar to your style that you can learn from. Sites like Flickr, Facebook, and Reddit have photography groups that you can join. Here you can get tips, inspiration, and fairly unbiased feedback from a HUGE community of photographers. However nothing beats a local community of photographers that give you encourage and feedback while also have photowalks and group outings to learn and grow together. Inspiration and feedback can come from online or next door! The key is to seek it out wherever you are.

One thing I learned, is that photography only gets easier technically when you practice a LOT! One thing I did was donating my time to local charities, different types of events (learning about shutter speed when you photograph a race or run) learning about difficult lighting conditions in an indoor event or create posed portraits for a group of kids graduating 5th grade. It all helped me to improve my skills, practice things I was insecure about and get my face out there.

Get out and shoot! The more you get out to use your camera the better you will get. Understanding golden light in the morning and evening that will give you that beautiful warm glowy light is every photographers dream. Whether you're photographing landscapes, people, or the street every photographer understands this light. But if you want to be great, learn to photograph in the bright light of the midday summer sun or the dark rainy night. Learn how the light can affect your images and how you can use any light to create something amazing. Finally learn how to use reflectors, filters, and scrims to shape the light to fit your needs. Learn the light to master your photography.
