While using VCS coding standards should already be defined and clear among the team members. While working in a team (whether or not using VCS) one more step should be added in development process and that is code review to make sure it matches with predefined coding standards and works well after code merge.

Is important to use a version control system. You can choose among a lot of commercial options, some with really cool functionalities. In my experience I was fine with the Azure DevOps suite. After choosing the version control system is important to define some rules with the dev team, for example pull requests rules. If you use SCRUM framework some of these rules can be defined in the DOD (Definition of done) and you can have a real checklist that you can follow for the pull request process. Dev team can also write documentation about code quality to follow

An Agile framework helps create multiple steps and check-in points, for developers and the client. This makes it more likely to address any changes that need to be made early on, as opposed to presenting one big deliverable at the end, when it may be too late to change course and still make the deadline.

Have a "on the market" MVP as fast a possible: just enough to prove that people are interested in the idea. After the idea is validated by real users, you can really start building (but still in small chunks :) )

If there is no high level visibility on where are we going, how do we plan to get there, and where we are currently, how cdo we even know we are moving forward? Using a tool to visualise these things accesible to everyone involved is key.

A code review tool is absolutely a must-have to maintain the code quality. What would be great also is to follow certain patterns and practices in reviewing the code and looking for code smells. Adding branch protection rules like successful build, dismissing stale reviews, minimum review counts etc would help to enahnce the code quality even further. Adding tooling to Github and other code reviewing tools for vulnerability scan, moving security to left, is also a way to deliver secure code.

code review tools are a great starting point but 100% relying on them is not recommended, what helped us, at Uforia Infotech, deliver good quality code is to have code reviews by a different developer(not necessarily senior), actually challenging the other developer to find flaws or improve the current code, the results were amazing and we added this practice to our development process.
