How can you improve teacher-student relationships?

Understanding the students and analyzing their interest will be the basis for good teacher student relationship. Tracking their behavioral patterns, receiving their feedbacks and making modulation according to the feedbacks will be highly effective.

In my experience, a good student-teacher relationship is crucial in forging a positive classroom culture and providing the best learning experience. I believe it is crucial to treat the students as people and show them that us teachers are human, too. Have a laugh, share some personal stories, and don't be so serious all the time! Remember though, you are the teacher and should maintain an authoritative presence in the classroom. Building a fine mix of being relatable and interesting while asserting authority when required will be an excellent way to create a lasting, positive student-teacher relationship for now and the future.

Understanding each student's unique qualities, such as interests, strengths, challenges, goals, and backgrounds, lays the foundation for a positive and enriching learning environment. Your suggestions of using surveys, interviews, icebreakers, and other activities to gather information and feedback are practical and actionable. I appreciate the emphasis on showing genuine curiosity and respect for their perspectives and experiences, as it sets the tone for a supportive and inclusive classroom.

The key is to understand your students and then ensure their visibility and representation in the curriculum. Choose inclusive class books that reflect their interests or cultural backgrounds. Utilise all lessons, particularly PSHE, to familiarise yourself with your students' strengths, weaknesses, and passions. Create opportunities to celebrate your students' achievements and learning experiences. Showcase their skills during school assemblies, implement a "star of the week" award, organise exhibitions for parents after completing a unit, and empower students to take charge of their learning. Maintain fairness and consistency, as these are qualities students value the most. Use inclusive language and make your classroom a safe place.

Take the time to understand each student's strengths, interests, and challenges. Personalise your approach to cater to their individual needs and learning styles. This demonstrates that you value and care about their growth.

Ensuring that all students walk away from a lecture or class session with the intended information imparted upon them is paramount to success for those students. Setting clear expectations and simple guidelines for the classroom, plus the thinking behind them, will provide students with a working basis for future interactions within the classroom. Alongside all of this it is important to remember that learning is generally better in an enjoyable environment. Avoiding harsh or negative language are key, but also reducing the number of acronyms or unknown entities presented to the class at once can help students feel more confident regarding their own skills. Finally, ask your students for for their feedback and work with that to improve.

Foster open and clear communication with students. Encourage them to express their thoughts, concerns, and ideas. Provide constructive feedback and praise their efforts to promote a supportive atmosphere.

Building a formal and fun rapport is essential for nurturing a developing mind woth regards to academia. You coild be the fuel that either lights or relights pure passion in a student and have a huge impact on the rest of their lives. You can model your passion for your subject through discussion and personalisation for each student. However, clear and explicit boundaries must be set to ensure their learning environment is professional, safe and respectul whilst still incorporating the passion. This can be a tricky thing to balance at first, but I found this is something that comes with practise. Being as honest as you possibly can be is something I have found both parents and students really appreciate, alongside mutual expectations.

Best thing I've committed to in teaching has always been to probe, ask questions, and being curious about students' opinions. I genuinely love what I teach, so naturally, I am always curious to know other perspectives, and excited when others contribute. I've found that it's easy to get stuck in doing the same repetitive thing in the classroom, but what will always make a classroom dynamic are the students. As teachers, we likely know most of the answers to questions, so why not empower students to share their thoughts & views, and turn it into a collaborative chat (as time permits)? This has been a working formula to not only learn & develop as a teacher, but creates empowered voices and confidence inside and outside the classroom.

Create opportunities for students to work together, engage in discussions, and contribute to class activities. Encouraging active participation fosters a sense of belonging and ownership in the learning process.

Empowering students to take their education in their own hands is beneficial in so man aspects from real-world independence to confidence and wellbeing. Allowing students to take more responsibility for their learning is always great in my opinion, even when students may be led astray our duty as educators is be their saftey net in such situations. It is better for students to practise decision making in the safe environments that we can provide to practise their initiative skills among others that are desirable in the working-world. It is never too early to start passing on responsibility of learning into students' hands.

I always remind students that we're all in the same boat: We want to learn, do something meaningful & we're trying to be better. I never want students to see a large disconnect between us in terms of 'levels', feel intimidated or not feel like their perspective, voices or curiosity matter; They absolutely do. So to setup foundations of flexibility & adaptability, sharing examples of content being taught, creating relatable experiential moments in the classroom (When teaching business courses, sharing processes of failed ventures elicit a lot of opportunity for learning & discussion) & keeping open discussions fluid are key in creating foundations of empathy & inclusion, serving as great harmonies of foundation for flexibility & adaptability

It's important to do your own research into learning psychology and what proven methodology already exists before experimenting with your own devices and ideas. Once you have these processes/ideas in place you can teach your students how to make their own materials that are personalised to be most effective to their learning style. When I create resources, the first thing I think about is accessibility - this is a great start into exploring variations to accommodate diverse needs. Example: colour coding the steps for solving simultaneous equations, ask yourself: will this pose problems to anyone? Potentially, people with colour blindness may find it more difficult to follow. A solution might be using symbols instead! Start experimenting!

Also try to include your students’ ideas and suggestions in the lesson planning process. Ask your students for regular feedback and ideas on what they’d like to learn more about.

Text to self connections. They are valued and they need to feel valued in their learning. Every Unit can reflect this. Simply direct students towards how they can make a difference or you teaching can connect to their experiences.
